This Christmas I have been firmly cast as the black sheep among the family of the mother of my child. This is tenuously claimed to be because of the confusion it would cause to my young nephew.

These people go to church every Sunday, yet where is their compassion, their forgiveness, their love at this time of year?

Where is the lesson, the example for my infant daughter, from whom I will be isolated and left in the house alone to do the pots for the afternoon?

Too many Christians are rank, bitter and even hateful hypocrites who totally miss the fundamental teachings of their so-called saviour.

One of the issues here as well is that our puny human brains evolved on the African plain hundreds of thousands of years ago, to deal with things like finding food and avoiding predators. And whilst our inquiring mind has enabled us to develop to an almost inconceivable level, we are nevertheless constrained in our thinking by our biology and life experiences. Some of the concepts about our universe - many of which are mathematically sound, and which may very well be true - are so downright bizarre to a brain that's purpose was to figure out how far away a large elephant is and how fast its running towards you.

There may very well be things that we never can understand because we are simply not equipped with sufficient brain power.
