Russian invasion of Ukraine

But we are not sitting idly by, we're providing weapons and support. Half the world have sanctions in place, major companies are not trading with them. They have been placed back 50 years. They simply can not carry on like this, there is more than one way to fight a war. Damn they can't even wank now cos pornhub fucked em off as well.
They can continue to wank over topless pictures of Putin

Just to think a month ago the Ukrainians were living their normal lives, completely unaware that their country that they’ve grown up in and love was soon to be demolished.

I know what it means for all of us if ourselves and our allies stepped in, but at what point do you say enough is enough?
If it's a choice between those brave Ukrainians suffering Russian occupation for a decade, till Putin dies, and a war with nuclear weapons that kills many people all over the world and poisons the planet for the survivors, I think I know which I'd prefer. For the Ukrainians, Russian conquest would be a case of "this too shall pass", but a global nuclear winter will last longer. So the appeasement vs. confrontation argument is, as ever, a game of chicken .. My choice? Probably "cluck", and life goes on.
OR - can Russia be defeated and Putin brought down before he escalates it further?

We are sitting idly by in the manner that we are letting him kill innocent people, sanctions are all well and good but I doubt Putin gives one fuck for them, I doubt he will be struggling to eat or heat his home like his people will eventually and let's face it like we will as well.

By the time sanctions really hit home the damage may well be irreversible.

Reduced the postwar national debt. Built over a million homes. Free health care.

Zilch?
Last two not economic. Nat debt increased by huge US loan. 1951 gov forced to resign when chancellor Cripps could not balance the budget. That is why the Tories got 13 years and a rep for economic competence (prob not deserved, just by contrast) and lab the opposite.
None of this is really relevant to the point about capitalism, so will leave it at that so as not to derail the thread.

I can see why you would say that, but it isn't really, at least not according to the wiki, which we all know is infallible

So state Capitalism. They have mega billionaires and large sectors of their economy are devoted to providing manufactured goods to North America and European markets.

Socialism with Chinese characteristics as the CCP like to call it, is just state capitalism.

But that is how it needs to work Karen, I understand how it works but my posts have said we can not sit idly by any longer watching people die at the hands of a madman intent on wiping out a nation, the same as we did not sit idly by in the past.
We sat by idly for a lot longer than this during WW2. March 1938 was when Germany annexed Austria. Even after this, we signed a deal agreeing that Germany can keep an area of Czechoslovakia to prevent further violence. In the meantime, Italy invaded Albania. It wasn't until September 1939 that we finally declared war on them.

Of course you could argue that technically we've been appeasing Putin for far longer with Georgia and Crimea.

So you said he made good points without actually knowing what they were or being able to recall any of them?

The reason So many asked what the good points were is because he didn’t make any good points, he just regurgitated Kremlin nonsense that’s long since been disproved.

There are loads of topics under the umbrella of this war and what it means that do have good points on both sides and there is no easy answer, but rascals got near unanimous rejection not because only one opinion is allowed but because his was so bad.
Stand down @domalino. This thread moves at a fast pace. I was not debating the right and wrongs of his points merely that he has an opinion and as such should not be shut down. Maybe I should have worded it differently. I am not going through his posts to defend his opinion nor do I need to argue his point on NATO, Russia or the war in general.

Simply put, it’s his viewpoint whether it is barmy or not. He tried to argue his numerous points and imo he did an ok job.

Anyway, I respect the information on this thread by posters who have shown to have vast experience on the subject. I can also respect the counter arguments even if some of those arguments can be picked apart quite easily.

Fuck Putin.
