Russian invasion of Ukraine

Unless they are as deranged as Putin, the Russian people must fuckin despise the man for what he's done.
He's completely fucked it for them, they will have nothing for a long time, imo.
Hopefully one loses the plot and takes him out.
They don't. The more sanctions we impose, the more they hate the west. They did anyway which is how he's got away with this.

Another high ranking Russian officer killed, there's been three or four now I think. Saw something about Russia's fancy new encrypted comms system not working and they have to communicate by mobile phones now, which are probably being intercepted and geolocated. NATO air assets must be helping in this, judging by the number of intel gathering aircraft doing racetracks near the Belarus and Ukraine borders.

They made this comms system that requires 3g phone masts which they have destroyed in Ukraine lol, proper shit military the ruskies even having to use an old rusty armoured train now.

Propaganda is an incredibly powerful tool.
Most are completely brainwashed.

It wasn’t until years later that German people realised what a dick Hitler was.

Putin will still be very popular with a lot of people.

Some of the people I know who watch RT have the same worldview, they seem to be pro China and without exception anti America, they are like children unable to think for themselves.

And that's here and now, in the west with the ability to read and watch any news source they want to. I have distanced myself from most of these people over the covid conspiracies they propagate but this is the final nail in the coffin for them.

They think they are being edgy, they think they are free thinkers going against the grain but in reality they are just mealy mouthed contrary cunts who mistake themselves for the intelligentsia they most certainly are not.

The immediate future for Ukraine looks bleak, granted, but the medium to long-term future for Russia looks horribly bleak. Even after Putin leaves, the damage this has done will set Russia back decades.

Maybe so. Doesn't really change anything for Ukraine though.

Ukraine has an incredibly bright future, that's one of the reasons Putin had to invade it.

Zelensky & co. were pushing out the old soviet era oligarchs and moving them towards a functional democracy at which point their massive wealth of natural resources would start to get exploited and all the money with it.

We've all seen over the last fortnight how closely Russians view Ukrainians - the "little brother" becoming the richest country in the region would have been devastating for Putin.

Perfectly put. Remarkable how it's the exact same people who were peddling the Covid conspiracies that are now spouting their nonsense about this completely unrelated situation.

They love castigating the rest of us for not doing our "research" when the extent of their own is clearly just RT and a few loopy YouTube channels that will ALWAYS go against the mainstream grain, no matter what the subject matter is.

Good post but this is inaccurate for obvious reasons. Oligarchs gained their position from in the post-soviet era.

Inch by inch, the world moves closer to World War 3

From somewhere the world needs a person who will bring some sanity to the situation, because if it does not happen, Russia has over 2,500 nuclear weapons. MAD becomes reality.

Very worrying times.
Which is why strong conventional defence is important and why letting Russia rearm since 2005 without matching them has been a total disaster.
