Russian invasion of Ukraine

I assume the weapons have ben returned to Sender. That dude shouldn't really be calling anyone out at the moment. We all Know Boris is a sweaty baby. Its still costing us millions to continue the fight. No way could they do it without the NATO infrastructure. It always baffles me when people come out and say things like that. Yeah mate, Boris is a bell end. But is that really the most important thing you need to deal with now. Stop the women and children from being killed. Once the Russians jib off back to where they came. Then make the point. Almost as petty as these Brexit mard arses - Its neither the time nor place for point scoring

The incredible entitlement of some people in this country never ceases to amaze me.

We signed a fucking treaty to protect Ukraine, which we reneged on, and in return sent a few missile launchers, and you seem to think that means they just have to sit down and shut up and pretend we're their saviours?

Poroshenko is, aside from being the ex-president of Ukraine who the UK government didn't help when Russia invaded Crimea, a billionaire. He could have flown out of town on his private jet and watched all this from the sidelines, but is instead staying put, defending his country.

And some fucking nobody thinks he should not have an opinion on Boris Johnson because he got sent some ATGM 8 years too late.

I find it rather unbelievable but the Russian army is reportedly losing many casualties to, would you believe it, frostbite!

Let's forget the fact that the UK trained the Ukrainian army for 7 years and supplied the Ukrainian army with enough NLAWs to blow away a huge chunk of the Russian armour.
That was David Cameron who sent in British troops to train them up not Johnson. Previous poster was calling out Johnson for his crass comparisons with Brexit.

Nobody doubts the British army have made a significant difference to the combat readiness of the Ukrainian army over this time, just no need to insult the gravity of the situation the people of Ukraine are enduring and suffering through with a political line from a cheap Christmas cracker.

Interesting discussions on Newsnight (as there tends to be).
One of the guests suggests we're at a cross roads in terms of the rest of the world watching on: populist leaders see Putin 'win' it gives them cart blanche for their own aims.
Loses and it will unite the rest of the world much more closely.

But Putin definitely took a chance on a perceived weekend Europe and the US (seeing the White House stormed amongst many other episodes).
Hope the fucker is done for these war crimes soon enough.

We’re doing the supplying, they’re doing the dying. The dude can call out who the fuck he wants.

They are taking volunteers if you fancy it, but for the moment all we can do is supply the Ukrainian people with the equipment to defend themselves unless you're for Armageddon.

By the way, they've been at war for 8 years and we've only just started arming them, despite signing a treaty to protect their sovereignty. Our contributions are actually nothing special at this point, we win points for being among the first to send them but the amounts are being matched. They've been sent over 25,000 ATGM and we sent 4,000.

Right now, the Ukrainians are desperate and will be grateful for all the help they get, but there will be plenty of time for reflecting on how their pleas for help were ignored for years and years, and how many died because of it. There'll also be plenty of time devoted to who helped them when they fled from their homes and who had them stuck in a tent shanty town in Calais for months.

The media has removed all semblance of nuance. First with Covid, now with Ukraine. Anyone saying we shouldn't destroy the world economy for the sake of a flu strain was an evil granny killer. Now anyone saying WW3 is a bad idea is somehow a Putin puppet.
Hmmm, I sense hyperbole is strong with you. ;-)

Flu & WWIII…got it.

Can we take it to another thread then, it's done, it's not going to change now no matter how you voted.

Let this thread be about the war in Ukraine, which has no bearing on that other (fucking boring now) subject.
This in fucking spades. Catching up on 20 pages from overnight and 80% of posts are about Boris and Brexit.

I avoid those threads like the plague as they’re toxic and completely fucking pointless at this stage. Not sure why people feel the need to turn this thread into a Brexit proxy thread.

We've been training their armed forces for 8 years now we've supplied 4200 anti tank missiles and no doubt much more equipment we've not been told about, if you're talking about the Budapest memorandum then only one of the signatories has reneged and it's not the UK. Basically we guaranteed to respect Ukraine's borders and sovereignty, not to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine and respect their independence. I don't think we've broken any of that, meanwhile one of the signatories has shit on everything they signed to.

We have done the absolute bare minimum for 8 years. Our 4000 ATGM is a cheap and easy throwaway and Ukraine has another 21,000 of them from other countries.

"More equipment we've not been told about" lol. As if this government would ever do anything without screaming about it from the rooftops.

They've briefed the Times today about how they're sending starstreak AA missiles, but unfortunately it takes a month to train people how to used them. Putin invaded Ukraine nearly 100 months ago. Those troops we helped train? They've been fighting for 8 years, could have trained them any time, could have sent the missiles any time.

We could have been selling, or giving them proper anti aircraft systems to protect their cities for 8 years, instead the US is trying to backdoor a deal to get old Soviet states to send 30 year old SAM systems to protect the rubble that's left. Wouldn't have had to worry about transporting them across borders, or getting them to the front lines, just a cargo plane right to the point they're needed.

I really think anyone who believes the Ukrainians are going to be celebrating the help we've given them in 5 years time is kidding themselves. Even if they win this war it was too little and too late.
