Russian invasion of Ukraine

We have done the absolute bare minimum for 8 years. Our 4000 ATGM is a cheap and easy throwaway and Ukraine has another 21,000 of them from other countries.

"More equipment we've not been told about" lol. As if this government would ever do anything without screaming about it from the rooftops.

They've briefed the Times today about how they're sending starstreak AA missiles, but unfortunately it takes a month to train people how to used them. Putin invaded Ukraine nearly 100 months ago.

We could have been selling, or giving them proper anti aircraft systems to protect their cities, instead the US is trying to backdoor a deal to get old Soviet states to send 30 year old SAM systems to protect the rubble that's left.
Our anti tank missiles work as the Russian armoured formations are finding out to their cost, starstreak works yes it's high tech and needs intensive training for sure, the body armour we've supplied will most probably have saved lives.Nobody can believe the Government would announce everything they are doing not even you.

You're really not getting this are you? They have been begging for help for 8 years and we did as little as possible until their cities were reduced to burning ruins. Everyting we're sending now should have been there years ago. Everything we can't send because maybe that's too close to joining the war and Putin might be unhappy should have been there years ago.

Let's forget the fact that the UK trained the Ukrainian army for 7 years and supplied the Ukrainian army with enough NLAWs to blow away a huge chunk of the Russian armour.

If it was coming out of Bozo's own pocket then maybe that would be different.

However, Bozo has (once again!) said something incredibly crass, insensitive and utterly stupid and the fact that the UK taxpayer and the UK's national interest has lead us to support the Ukrainian cause does not give him immunity from being called a dick for saying something dickish.

That's bullshit, and I know from personal work experience, we have been the primary country training their soldiers for 8 years, and they didn't need to "beg" for it.

You think that's enough? You're actually proud of that?

We didn't give them any weapons or air defences to stop the mass murder of civilians, but we (along with Canada and the US) trained about 15,000 troops (of their 200,000 strong army).

This in fucking spades. Catching up on 20 pages from overnight and 80% of posts are about Boris and Brexit.

I avoid those threads like the plague as they’re toxic and completely fucking pointless at this stage. Not sure why people feel the need to turn this thread into a Brexit proxy thread.
Throw a few shovels in too.

I think it's as much as we can do, what do you want ?

Where were the rest of Europe, I can tell you where, nowhere.

You think it's acceptable that we're going to spend a month training some to use starstreaks in Poland now, when they've been getting "trained" by us for 8 years? Those would have been quite useful to stop some of the 200 bombing sorties the Russians are doing every day, wouldn't they?

Still that's only another 6,000 sorties until they're trained now. How many bombs and missiles is that? How many more civilians will die because we didn't feel like training them before now?

How many are dead now because "the most we could do" a month ago was ship a few NLAWs but now we can send them anti aircraft systems as well?

I'm sorry but you seem to be throwing the blame on us for what's going on in the Ukraine let me try to explain, the Russian military are mass murdering civilians, the Russian military are attacking an independent state, the Russian military are razing Ukraine's cities. The UK is doing what it can now to assist the Ukrainian military. Jez put the blame square where it belongs Putin and his murdering army.

Obviously Putin is to blame you fucking goon, that doesn't change the fact we could have given the Ukrainians a lot more help over the last 8 years that could have saved lives and patting ourselves on the back and pretending we've done a great job and are leading the world is pathetic.

This conversation all started from someone saying Poroshenko should shut up and be happy we've given them missiles and how dare he criticise Johnson. That's the entitlement and self-congratulating bullshit I'm arguing against.
