Anyway, getting back to topic and the last few pages. The reality is that the Russians would have already conquered Ukraine but for the bravery of people mounting the resistance. Good intelligence and weaponry is clearly extremely important but it wasn’t the most important things in Iraq and Afghanistan where £trillions were spent on training and equipment only for forces to evaporate.

Zelensky is reported as saying there are now 100k people now trapped in Mariupol. I hope and pray that many have escaped the annihilation of that City, but sadly thousands have lost their lives.

Yesterday’s summary

Ukrainian forces carried out several successful counterattacks west of Kyiv retaking the towns of Moshcun and Makariv. No mention of campaign reported yesterday around Irpin, Buch and Hostomel. This map shows that Ukrainian forces might be cutting off the most southerly part of the Russian arm around Kyiv. Irpin, Buch, and Hostomel is the bit closest to the north west of Kyiv so would make sense for Ukrainian forces to counter, encircle and remove that threat.

Ukrainian forces successfully repelled several attacks around Luhansk and Donetsk

Russian forces continue to dig in and likely will now just shell cities rather than take on Ukrainian forces in the field.

Russian forces continue to slowly erode Mariupol resistance.

There is talk that Russia has failed to appointment an overall commander for operations in Ukraine leaving units and military districts competing for resources which is adding to the supply chaos

Russian forces did not make any major advances on March 22 and Ukrainian forces conducted local counterattacks northwest of Kyiv and around Mykolayiv. Russian forces around Kyiv and other major cities are increasingly prioritizing long-range bombardment

Johnson's comments were crass and insensitive and as a country we are making a valuable contribution to the war effort.

Whether we're doing all we can requires knowledge that few of us have got. Certainly not me.
