Russian invasion of Ukraine

I’m guessing it jumps from 120 to 600+ because he points it at the metal sign?
It's probably because of radioactive dust blown from the ground that has settled on the sign and somewhat irradiated the sign itself. When the Chernobyl disaster happened they dug and turned all of the soil in the area so it couldn't blow around so much.

The most radioactive soil will be underneath and it's probably why those Russian soldiers got ill. Some of that soil will contain some really nasty stuff from the explosion which takes thousands of years to decay. It's best left well alone...

With any luck, sanctions against Russia will lead to an overthrow of Putin.

With even more luck, a pro-Democracy regime will emerge.

Putin overthrow - seems very possible. I can't see Putin backing down from the war. Meanwhile, sanctions are, insofar as I've read, crippling.

Obviously these aren’t credible pictures….

….are they marv, you silly goose.

Is the soil really that radioactive you ask?

These pictures evoke sadness and anger in equal measure.

Sadness for the poor Russian conscript ordered into Chernobyl to dig trenches - unware of the danger.

And anger for Putin and his generals who through stupidity, ordered their troops into needless self-harm.
===
As an aside - how fucking stupid can you be to order your own troops into Chernobyl to dig trenches. Russian leadership is in this instance - and many others - so completely broken it's frankly unbelievable.

It does have nothing to do with football but our owner is the deputy prime minister of the UAE and a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family.... Right now he's sat on his arse doing nothing whilst the club he owns is putting up flags for Ukraine, it's ridiculous.
If you are going to say that Mansour is sitting on his arse doing nothing, you need to have evidence of that, but you don't quote any. Only a few days ago, he was being roundly condemned by the football press for getting involved in the attempt to negotiate a political settlement in Syria.
Btw, Mansour is not THE deputy prime minister, he is A dpm, one of three. He is influential, particularly through his sitting on and sometimes chairing quangos and state enterprises, but he has no legislative function, other than to nod thru proposals made by the Executive Council, effectively the government. He is not a member of the Executive Council.

Appalling.

EU's fuel payments to Russia outweigh military aid to Ukraine - Borrell

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell delivers a speech during a debate at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, 06 April 2022

Josep Borrell told MEPs the EU had to reduce energy dependence on Russia: Josep Borrell told MEPs the EU had to reduce energy dependence on Russia
The European Union has spent €35bn (£29bn) on Russian fuel since the start of the war, compared to an outlay of just €1bn to Ukraine in arms and weapons, the EU's foreign policy chief has said.
"We have to help [the Ukrainians] defend themselves... We have given Ukraine €1bn. It might seem a lot but €1bn is what we pay Putin every day for the energy he provides us," he told the European Parliament.
His remarks come as EU ambassadors meet to consider a fifth round of sanctions against Moscow – including a ban on imports of Russian coal.
"Today we put an end to coal but this is only a small share of the bill," Borrell told MEPs.
European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has said the EU is "working on" additional measures including restrictions on oil imports.

Seen reports that the Russians are transporting even more tanks into Ukraine. Hope the West is giving Ukraine the appropriate support, including what it needs from John Deere and Massey Ferguson...

Also worth noting that the money we have 'given' to Ukraine will probably be in the form of an imf credit note used to buy weapons from us.

I disagree, the Middle Eastern countries have a lot of power over Russia and they certainly have the means to increase the pressure to stop the war. They have chosen not to take any action and the Middle East has become a haven for rich Russians who are fleeing the impact of western sanctions. I'd imagine that Dubai is awash with Russians who are avoiding the harsh impact of sanctions in Moscow.

The whole point of sanctions is to hurt the people that matter but all that is happening is the rich folk are likely leaving Russia to move to places like the UAE where they can live in total comfort until this all blows over.

He is not doing nothing , read back a few pages for what he is doing with his investment fund being suspended in russia
