Can anyone out there explain why we have always had a small standing army?, even now with almost identical budgets France has far bigger numbers.

Does Belarus have a defence pact with Russia? If not, it could open the way to external ( wont say Nato at this point ) intervention.

It will be the same situation as now so no NATO involvement

Lukashenko is a dictator on par with a Putin but without the resources. He’s also his woman. If he’s told to invade he’ll order it, it’s questionable if the troops will obey though, or even try.

The west won’t intervene unless a NATO county is violated (Lithuania could be key, they are blocking Russian trains to Kaliningrad) They’ll supply the Ukrainians with weapons but do everything they can to avoid boots on the ground. Belarus could invade Ukraine, claiming it’s doing so to protect its border, the Russian excuse for invading Polska in 1939.
