Russian invasion of Ukraine

I hate these bunch of clowns we've got in now but it would've been even worse if Corbyn got in.

I shudder at the thought of him as PM under this particular crisis.
He'd be blaming NATO.

Just a fortnight before the invasion, Diane Abbott was chastising the US for sending troops to strengthen NATO's Eastern border, in a suggestion that the US was the aggressor.

When all you have is a hammer (and sickle), everything looks like a nail.

The west won’t intervene unless a NATO county is violated (Lithuania could be key, they are blocking Russian trains to Kaliningrad) They’ll supply the Ukrainians with weapons but do everything they can to avoid boots on the ground. Belarus could invade Ukraine, claiming it’s doing so to protect its border, the Russian excuse for invading Polska in 1939.
If Putin does tell Lukashenko to go in(and he will if Putin tells him to),it will purely be in the hope that it drags Ukrainian forces from the Donbas region.
Russia is struggling and desperate for help,IMO.

I do think he was probably told to go in at the same time Russia did but chose not too. it was certainly hinted at a week or so into the invasion.

If they go in now it will be because they think they can actually win.

Would be an interesting twist if Lukashenko has seen how bad Russia's army is and they go in to defend Ukraine to try to garner western aproval.. wont happen but its the sorta thing you see in the movies.

I suppose if it was before the invasion that the US piled troops up on the border rather than after the invasion then she was correct. The us was the 'aggressor' at that point - albeit justifiably so.

Agreed, Russia is toiling, hence the massacres. Trying to force the locals into submission. But this never worked under Stalin. Belarus could invade but they’ll be less motivated than the Russians and who knows how well equipped they are, and what their supplies are like. Conscript armies are rarely effective.

Not so sure mate, dont think Russia estimated a timeline like this.
Read summat about 6 weeks into the invasion....it was about documents found on captured or killed Russians.
Documents estimated 15 days to take Ukraine.

Its in here,dunno how true,tbf. https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2022/03/2/7327539/

Maybe he’s reticent to invade. Does he trust his troops? If he went in and it was a clusterfuck he could risk protests and potential revolution. He’s clinging onto power with Putins help. If he’s toppled Putin would lose a strategic ally and no question Belarus would look West.

It's day 119 and the first Getman heavy weapon is finally in service in Ukraine.

About fucking time.
(Note: The picture is of a German one. They are still rare beasts in Ukraine.)
