Lukoshenko has more to gain by telling Putin to fuck off and “defecting” to the West if Putin makes that demand.

Unless he’s a complete psychopath, which I don’t think he is, I just don’t see him doing it.

That's not the reason for the artificial strengthened Ruble. Also, a strong currency doesn't help selling things..

Putin was insisting in energy payments in rubles which will contribute to the artificial strengthening I suppose.

Ukraine set to become EU member on Thursday, diplomats say​

Ukraine is likely to become an official member of the European Union bloc on Thursday, diplomats from the union and ministers said, in a symbolic move four months after it was invaded by Russia.
Officials from EU are set to sign off tomorrow, at a summit in Brussels, recommendations made by the European Commission last week.
Luxembourg’s foreign affairs minister Jean Asselborn, ahead of a meeting with other EU ministers, said: “We are working towards the point where we tell [Russian President Vladimir] Putin that Ukraine belongs to Europe, that we will also defend the values that Ukraine defends.”
“There is not a single country which makes problems with the proposal. We will show great unanimity,” Mr Asselborn said.
According to several diplomats, no countries raised objections at a meeting of the bloc’s ambassadors earlier this week.

Ukraine have played a blinder with Snake Island. It is part of Russian propaganda that they occupy it and therefore control the sea around it. They cannot now back down.
Ukraine are happy for them to continue this line as they keep sinking boats, destroying helicopters and last night, shelling it for hours. They are inflicting huge casualties on the Russians over an island that means little.

According to the BBC this is just ratifying their official candidacy status; the actual signing of them becoming a member could take years.

Once this has been completed it will join the Union on the date specified in the treaty. The entire process, from application for membership to membership has typically taken about a decade, although some countries, notably Sweden, Finland, and Austria have been faster, taking only a few years.

I've worked on several EU funded culture projects - takes two years and a week long conference in a Swedish university to get a logo signed off (true story) so the process of admitting a war-torn Eastern European nation will take a lot longer than three months..!
