They would have lost WW2 without UK/US logistics and equipment support.
Also, the Soviet population back then was higher than that of the RF today. The RF population is 144.1m (2020) and the population of the Soviet Union was 195.4m on the outbreak of WW2. The population of core Russian territories has barely increased compared with western nations since then.

They knew the Germans woukd have treated them terribly so they were stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. I don't think that applies this time round.
