Russian invasion of Ukraine

Half a dozen warthogs would get shot down in 6 hours.

We had this back in March when people wanted A10's to strafe that giant Russian convoy. Actual a10 pilots came out and laughed at the idea, because they'd be immediately shot down by any modern MANPAD which Russia has plenty of because of how much capturing and recapturing of equipment has gone on both sides.

Indeed. It’s such a shit and risky weapons platform the US Air force has stuck with it reluctantly since 1972.

8,000 combat sorties, 5 losses.

Still, domalino always knows best ;-)

Have they ever used them in a conflict against a military of comparable strength to it's own forces?

Awww diddums. ...going balls deep for Twitter has left poor Elon potless has it?

In all seriousness his money is all in shares of SpaceX and Tesla etc.

And SpaceX are burning cash rapidly and there’s been a few warnings they may go bankrupt unless they get the starship and super heavy booster running soon. It was delayed due to an fcc investigation into environmental impacts.

So yep. SpaceX as an business is pretty close to the bone right now.

While they may not be the right weapon for this job at the moment due to lack of air superiority. It’s very clear that Russia’s forces are not even close to comparable to the US.

You've misread the context of the post. Comparable is short for relatively comparable not equal strength.

And I wasn't talking about the USA and Russia, I was talking about Ukraine vs Russia. No one sensible is suggesting that USA enters the conflict as a belligerent.

From article.

"While it is true that the A-10 was originally designed specifically to engage columns of Soviet armor (though, as we'll discuss later, it may not be as effective at that as you'd think), the low-and-slow Warthog found fame as the infantryman's favorite close-air-support platform throughout two decades of asymmetrical warfare in the Middle East."

Please don't confuse the Russian State and the Russian People.

A vast, vast majority of the people of Russia don't want this war and are very much against it, expect they don't have the privilege and luxury of free speech.

Save your hate for Putin and Co, not the general population.

Asymmetrical being the operative word, neither Afghanistan or Iraq (in the latter case after the initial bombardment) had any surface to air stuff. Slow moving is fine.

Nothing in this article says anything about Musk spending a fortune on Starlink?

Are you confused or just a Musk fanboy?
Where do you think skills to respond to Russian EW come from?
I guess you think they grow on trees. Well, they don't.
I know he has TREBLED the number of prople employed in Cyber security for Starlink and employed around 20-25 consultancy experts on ($2000 a day for their level of skill). As well as working hand in glove with NSA etc in threat protection.
Not cheap.
At least $100m dollars - probably more.
As a business these costs will wipe out any profits and more. Of course you probably hate the idea of business profit but that Is the reality.
