I think I mentioned a few years ago in this thread, that if Russia continued to exhaust its supplies of men and material in Ukraine, to the detriment of the entire rest of their borders… then China could easily take on most of eastern Russia with nary a worry - other than the nukes (but they probably have the technology to stop whatever rusty ones Russia launch).

A post on this thread a few days ago showed how much financial trouble Russia is in and how it is trying to get money in.
VAT increased by 2 percent and raiding successful businesses like Mr Brown raided Pension Funds all those years ago.
The oil revenue has been attacked by Ukraine so it's time to get more from businesses and the population. They are paying more for petrol if they can get any so desperate times for the economy.
If the boss of a prosperous carbon fibre producer dies by suicide or example many other businesses must expect more of the same theft to save the economy.

I think paraffin is used by jets so maybe it is cracked differently to petrol?

They're separate products from crude oil - the two are essentially made in the same process.
I think Russian refineries were down by about 20% a month ago, but that probably means that there is still a fairly large amount being made.
