Mud season in Ukraine is restricting troop movements to roads. Armored vehicles, truck transports, etc. risk getting bogged down if they try to go cross country, not to mention the problem of open terrain and drones that make spotting targets easy....

The line will give a bit but reinforcements are there when required and the Russians are throwing so many to their deaths here.
Also note that Ukraine has advanced a bit to the North (south of Severodonetsk) and the South (near Donetsk)-
If i was a betting man (which I'm not), a modern battle of Canae is starting to shape up here.

That retired military man they have on Sky news was saying a week or so back that it doesn’t matter what happens in Bakhmut, take Severodonetsk and russian lines collapse.
