Think it’s more he has no easy choice domestically and Germany, given its mid and short term history, were always going to struggle with how to deal with this. It’s more about national psyche than it is cheap energy, they’ve done a lot more as a populace than we have in their consumption with that for example. Not sure the current position will last long though, the international pressure is huge already.

More for a German politics thread though I think, that’s more complicated than anywhere…

Not exporting them themselves, I get. But stopping others?
How to shoot yourself in the foot.
Bridges with Eastern European countries burnt that will result in very difficult relations for Germany going forward.
Future arms sales will be non existent as things stand.

Why does Poland need permission from another county to send their own weapons?
Because when they sell you the arms, they require you to provide an “end user certificate” which states that you will deploy the arms yourself and not just transfer them to a third party.
