Russian invasion of Ukraine

1. Courtesy
2. Future supply of parts
3. Software needing updates. Also maybe the presence of software remote kill switches. Eg F35 fighters are basically ‘owned’ by the US.
But why do they need permission from Germany and not France, UK etc?

Germany flip flopping again in tanks. Now saying Poland has to follow protocol and get permission to send

Astonishing.
Scholz really did want the war over quickly so Germany could ignore democracy and continue making stuff with cheap Rissisn energy.

Germany under Scholtz are a disgrace.

And part of the purchase of a leopard is Germany control the export of them. Prohibiting re selling or passing on without permission
Yep, that's why Saudi Arabia bought Abrams from 1994 instead of preferred Leopard (while Abrams at least had the same Rheinmetall 120mm smoothgore gun).

That also indicates @domalino that control of re-export was and is more important for Germany than pure financials of military exports.

Think it’s more he has no easy choice domestically and Germany, given its mid and short term history, were always going to struggle with how to deal with this. It’s more about national psyche than it is cheap energy, they’ve done a lot more as a populace than we have in their consumption with that for example. Not sure the current position will last long though, the international pressure is huge already.

More for a German politics thread though I think, that’s more complicated than anywhere…
