Russian invasion of Ukraine

So it’s being going on for a year and for all of the republican shouting, it’s only cost the US 3.75% of their annual defence budget of $800Bn. Purely in a monetary sense, that seems remarkably good value, considering how much it has weakened the Russian army.
It's been brilliant VFM for America as it's shown that the Russians have got nothing apart from a few nukes and aren't a credible/capable of a fight against them on the ground.

Just a shame so many Ukrainians have died, scared for life, disappeared etc.

There is a huge problem for certain parties in the US in that by donating the older tech arms to Ukraine and it decimating the ruSSians, it's proving that new technology isn't required
There's so much money to be made in R&D and supply of something shiny and new. People will have been lobbying and demonstrating that new technology is required to stay ahead. Over the years they will have been bigging up ruSSia and this war is proof that ruSSian conventional forces are not a threat and the American arms development "cash cow" is in danger

Day 346 Review:

Hmmm retreating from Bakhmut would just allow the Russians to push on to the next place as taking buildings really stop Human wave tactics. The casualty ratios are massively in Ukraine's favour and so retreat should only take place if it looks as though Bakhmut could be surrounded.

Which might partly explain why tensions with China have been warming of late.
