Russian invasion of Ukraine

Sadly Russia will eventually "win" as things stand. We are arming Ukraine so they don't lose, not so they can win.

In the last couple of months with all the armours troop carriers being delivered I think this is shifting away from defensive more.

I do agree though that we need to adjust what we are sending in terms of small arms fire. but then all the armoured troop carriers have some pretty heavy duty machine guns on them.

How can they possibly ‘win’ for the foreseeable? Whatever gains they make will be more than offset by the losses to their living standards and international standing. They had it far better before this war than they will afterwards.

How can that be characterised as winning?

A lot of resources in Ukraine would help balance their books

Few years down the line , everyone moves on, new right wing governments here and there lifting sanctions etc

Pray to god it doesn’t happen this way

But Russia know how to play the long game

The biggest threat in terms of the long haul going forward is if Trump gets into power again and carries out his threats of removing the US from NATO and removing all US support from Ukraine. He'd probably even give Putin his blessing to do what he wants.

I have a feeling (maybe it's a hope) that Ukraine has used the winter to rest existing forces and to build up the new reserves.

These will all be available in the spring and the tide will turn their way again.

Meanwhile Russia has just been wasting lives all winter long.

He would have no choice, Putin owns him. Compromised him, interfered in the 2016 election to get him in, has him over a barrel
