Russian invasion of Ukraine

They are buying time in the hopes that something can happen to tip their favour (US elections, internal drama in europe etc). If i was to guess the current plan is trying to hold on until winter and try paint the counteroffensive as a failure in the hope of reducing supplies from the West who might want some return on donations and then try throw enough of their cannon fodder at them to attrition Ukraine down without Western resupplying equipment and freeze the current frontlines..
Their strategy is very simple - survive long enough for the US support to tail off next year and then ultimately hope Trump wins and gives them Ukraine.

Zelensky called out EU partners just last week as talking the talk but deep down not being committed to the fight and he didn’t do that for laughs - he needs them to pick up the slack once the US deliveries slow down.

You should take a look at this guys videos. Outside of a bit of trump madness the US are not likely to stop supporting Ukraine.

Since Bakhmut they have just been stalling for time, they have no real capacity left to push and know they cant contain Ukraine forever a long as they are supplied by the West. Russia is throwing away hundreds of troops to slow down every Ukraine breach but it forces Ukraine to take their time to reduce their own casualties, unlike russia who uses them as a resource. Russia is attritioning an incredible amount of equipment and personal and all they are doing is slowing down the inevitable.

Currently it looks like even this plan wont work as Ukraine are making progress through the lines in spite of this.
Ukrainian Forces are now about 5km from the last defence line of trenches across Zaporizhzhia Region.
A lot of eyes are watching the South.

Slava Ukraini.

82nd Air Assault Brigade and 46th Airmobile Brigade are now here....got some decent firepower.
Between them,about 110 pieces of equipment,which includes.....
5 Grad MLRS.
20 IFVs + 22 APCs.
7 Stryker.
13 Marder.
10 T-80 MBTs.
14 Challenger 2 MBTs.
Could be a quick one.

Russia has achieved the impossible. A country with huge oil reserves is running out of diesel and gasoline. As a result they have announced an outright ban on the export of those commodities.
How this is possible is quite complex but, put simply:
1. Exports of crude oil have dropped significantly due to sanctions.
2. Refineries are less profitable. Up to 40% of capacity is idle.
3. Increased demand for diesel and gasoline have pushed the price up and the gov cannot afford the subsidies which bridge the gap between wholesale and retail markets.
4. The harvest should be in full swing now but the agricultural sector is short of fuel and cash to pay for it.
Hence the export ban in an attempt to take pressure off the price and increase domestic supply.
The Russian economy continues to suffer.
Thanks for that explanation KS. I have been looking for an explanation to Russias shortages.
