Russian invasion of Ukraine

It's a special relationship in name only imo. The yanks have always worked any relationship present to their advantage.
Do you mean like funding NATO for the last half century and parking nukes over there as a deterrent?

We can bring them all back, along with the nuke subs, if you like? We can pull up the listening posts, stop the U2 flights, and fuck ofc home with our ball, if that’s your fancy. Say the word, because we’d all love the fucking massive tax break of only defending the USA…just ask the 70M Trumpers!!!

We are energy independent and have most of the natural resources we need to survive quite well. In fact, I’m struggling to think of ANYTHING we really need from Europe.

It’s funny even talking to a Brit about being reliable after you just fucked off out of Europe. A fucking dead empire that produces nothing of worth, other than financial services profit that fuels the only first world city in the entire country, and is full of government handout wasters and a socialist medical system that is dying under its own weight because you just can’t tax people enough for the level of govt services they demand!

And, while much of the above is purely for argumentative purposes, it doesn’t make it any less salient.

Post-Brexit Britain is fucked, and most people know it, which is why they’re all trying to rebuild the “relationship.” This isn’t the golden years of the Industrial Revolution…except in every major city in the North, which is still working on its hangover from that past glory.

Throw a few glass buildings up, talk of regeneration (at the absolute low cost, shortest longevity possible) and build a new estate every few years and it’s considered “progress”!!

Wake the fuck up to the real world out there. The USA is certainly not the be all, end all of the 21st century, but we are doing a little better than living of the failed memory of those few years in the 60’s when everything was “groovy” and England (read: London) felt like a place to be.

Now??? Pfft!!!

I think he saying that Europe has relied too heavily on the US for defence support. Hard to say that is not true? And isn't good for either party?
I’m reading “one way street” and thinking he’s driving down it backwards saying “I’m only going one way!”

NATO has a simple formula. Follow it.

The U.S. military budget is obscene and the push to reduce it is loud and growing, because most of the money is spent overseas, not necessarily protecting our borders.

I think he was pretty clear…

“The European nations should be our one and only priority, the USA has always looked after itself.”

And, that’s horseshit!

"The US voted in Trump"
"The US might be voting him in again"

And you say the UK is fucked (up)......."Drops the Mike"

Jeeze, I didn't even bother reading all that. You need to wind your neck in a little pal and lay off the abuse. Sure you have funded the majority of nato, no one said you hadn't. But the truth of the matter is Eurpope needs to do more. The US does what's in its best interests, I've no issue with that, we need to do the same.

This conversation has come about because it looks increasingly likely your country is going to back Trump, and I can only assume from your tone you're 100m % behind him. When you do that, you will pull out of supporting Ukraine. That's your choice no-one else's. Therefore the UK and Europe needs to stand on its own two feet.

You appear to be conflating defence spending with NATO funding.
The US funds 16.2% of NATO’s costs compared to the UK’s 11.2%. Europe as a whole funds 77% compared to North America’s 23%.
The only time Article 5 was invoked was by the US after 9/11 when NATO allies all came and supported the US.

Interesting I didnt know those numbers.
Our touchy yank won't like that.

I like the yanks, but Europe needs to stop relying on them, we are a big enough continent, we should be able to hold our own, unfortunately who runs it, you have too many chiefs all trying to put their two pennies worth in. The only way to run a “European” response is to maybe like the UN a rotating head, who makes the final decision whether good or bad. Poland are showing the way, they realise what’s on their doorstep and have stepped up their military, we are now in a Cold War 2 situation, Putin unless he dies or disappears will be there for the foreseeable future and any inclination of him going I fear he will go balls deep to go out with a bang.
If USA wants to isolate itself so be it, but I’m sure prior to 9/11 Bush had said he was pulling back from policing the world and that worked out well! if the orange gibbon gets back in I fear things will go downhill in Ukraine quite quickly and I reckon that’s what Putin is holding out for, if equipment is on the wane now give it 6 months the election will be done in USA Trump gets in I guarantee Putin goes for it. Then where does he stop, no doubt he will solidify his hold of Ukraine and the grain, build up again over the years and play the long game, meanwhile the USA will probably be tearing itself apart from within and China will be looking at Taiwan.
Europe has to make its decisions based on the worst possible outcomes. Trump getting in and Putin beating the Ukraine, they need to start doing that now or it could be too late.

Wise words and hard to dissagree with any of that. I might add I like the yanks aswell :-)
