Russian invasion of Ukraine

French parliament calls for "lifting taboo" on Kyiv's ban on strikes against Russia

"According to Jean-Louis Bourlanges, "this change in doctrine is absolutely legitimate, as it puts an end to the unacceptable asymmetry between the position of the aggressor and the position of the victim of aggression".

"Why should the Ukrainians be denied the right to respond to attacks against them with a strike?" the MP asks and calls for "the lifting of an unjustified taboo".

"In the face of Russia's redoubled aggression, only a rebalancing of forces and the restoration of symmetry in strategic positions can convince Putin to stop his disastrous adventure," the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee said.

Only took them over 2 years to come to a sensible solution..

From "The Analyst":

CHASIV YAR

The Russians have been relatively quiet here for over two weeks, seemingly having exhausted their initial forces.
Since then they have spent the time regrouping and drawing in fresher units to resume operations.
What seems to have motivated them is the deployment of the Ukrainian elite Kraken units to the canal district - the Russians primary target.
The Canal District has been shelled and bombed leaving it mostly ruins, but it’s not totally destroyed, with several high rise buildings still standing but uninhabited and badly damaged.
Deployment to one around the district is not easy as it’s under constant Russian observation and they use artillery to pick off any movement if they see it.
The Ukrainians have been using the buildings and their own drones and artillery to pick off the Russians - the contact zone is only around 300m wide so it’s hard to avoid being seen for either side.
Using a rear deployed PzH2000 with its unique multi-firing capability (it can fire up to six 155mm in 60 seconds at increasing barrel elevation changing the trajectory/time on target, so that all six arrive near-simultaneously), they were able to pick off key pieces of equipment.
These included then now rare but very dangerous TOS-1 thermobaric missile launcher, a heavy mortar vehicle, now also in short supply, and several other support and armoured units.
Because the canal district has been positively to break, the Russians managed to destroy two of the crossing into it, hoping to restrict Ukrainian resupply. This hasn’t really worked as the canal water level is low and the Ukrainians placed dozens of makeshift bridges for infantry and repaired the original crossings.
Six Russian BMD’s made an effort to deploy fresh troops and lost two to the Kraken’s M-777’s.
Four managed to get troops into the district. Kraken destroyed another two BMD’s on their return journey.
The Russian troops were quickly isolated and killed.
The Russians then planned to outflank the whole district by attacking the western part of Chasiv Yar, using their newly reinforced units.
They made small advances in the north and more substantially some in the south - largely due to the use of another TOS-1 system.
The Russian northern flanking attack went wrong, with Ukrainian forces counter attacking and capturing or killing much of the Russian forces
In the woodlands.
Thanks to the Kraken units, the Russian forces have been unable to make significant gains - and they have lost a great deal of men and machinery again, which they clearly have significantly less of they once did.
Chasiv Yar remains a long way from being taken and it’s going to take much more than the Russians have to give at present to make it happen.
A brilliant defence by a deeply respected and admire unit of the Ukrainian Army.
Such units inspire and encourage their neighbouring units and this seems to have been the case here.
Russians will not pass!

Slava Ukraini !

Well, Olaf Scholz isn't at that point and there are no signs he would ever change his mind.

Anyway, there are enough urgent things to do on legal Ukrainian territory, but it's all much too slow and half hearted.

But it's necessary to tell Putin that russia has to expect logically that UKR might do everything that russia has done to UKR without being surprised when it happens and than cry "unfair!! escalation! genocide!"
Putin started this shite, now be ready for the consequences.

Is there any truth in the agreement between the US/NATO and China, that if Ukraine doesn’t fire into Russia itself then China won’t supply weapons to Russia. ?
