Russian invasion of Ukraine

Anybody care to offer their opinions on what the West/Ukrainians can do better? What should their main objectives be? Fwiw I think the Ukrainians should launch a counter-attack in the South to try and regain their coastline and Mariupol. It would be a huge boost if they could somehow achieve this. Maybe then scuttle a few more of the Russian fleet and then reinforce the East. Don’t know if any of this is remotely possible or if any of it is even being thought about. Seems to me that the Ukrainians are solely attempting to contain the Russians rather than going on the offensive themselves. I’m probably talking bollocks (as usual) but be interesting to know what Bluemooners think.

Ukrainian forces going on the offensive would give the Russian forces the excuse to carpet bomb the f*ck out of them and claim self defence.

Containing them is about all they can do right now.

They have been doing some proactive strikes but i think they are backs to the wall , the ukrainians that is , no idea what they are doing in the east at the moment , i have a romantic idea that they can take the steel works back and rescue those in there

They very much are on the counter offensive where possible. The big blob of blue in the middle of “occupied territory is a great indication of how many people they’re going to need to leave back to defend their backs if they make any progress further into Ukrainian territory. The cunts.

The bit of coastline that Mariupol is on would be practically useless now, as it's on the Sea of Azov, which is surrounded by Russia and Crimea, so I doubt any Ukrainian vessels would be allowed through the narrow straight, even if the war ended. As for counter attacks, they did around Kherson and Mykolaiv, and pushed them back around/just before they retreated from around Kyiv. I think the Ukrainians have done a remarkable job so far.
 
The new plan. The last bit is interesting, joining up with Moldova to link Transnistria with Russia. It like the UK deciding to invade France because a few roast beefs have some holiday homes there and the French hate us and cracking on through Spain to link Gibraltar up to the UK because they want to be British - and have monkeys which are cute. As plans go, it’s ambitious.

I was thinking having a goal of setting up a corridor through Ukraine which Russia control was an interesting aim.

I approve of your use of 'ambitious' there!

With their numbers and equipment that sounds about right....They would be fucked if they attacked RU. RU need at least 3 x the men and equipment to attack Ukraine, probably a lot more now due to the inept training. I think the well trained Ukrainians know this and seem to be doing a decent job.
