Russian invasion of Ukraine

A ceasefire or a peace agreement means nothing without security guarantees.
The biggest threat to global security is how fast the US drops sanctions.

Ukraine agrees terms on a 30 day ceasefire. Proposal to be delivered to Russia.

US aid and intelligence is switched back on.

Interesting development.

Ukraine have always been dead against such a proposal as it just enables Russian retrenchment and rearming.

So either they feel they've no choice, or they've decided to call Russian bluff, I guess.

Zelinsky trying to get Trump on side. But Trump is as unreliable as Putin.

I think it only being 30 days is the key.

Yes, but it potentially allows Ukraine to do the same and it obliges the Russians to either accept or veto the proposal and walk away from the ‘road to peace’ or however the Ukrainians choose to paint it.

Whatever concerns Ukraine has over the Americans, the Russians will have them too and how much aid can Europe provide in that 30 days will also be a factor in Russian thinking.

And how does it look domestically that after a drone attack on Moscow, Putin agrees to a 30 day ceasefire that Ukraine is fully supporting. Will it look weak?

There are risks for both sides.

Don’t understand why Starmer is offering congratulations. Ukraine may agree but don’t they have to get Russia on side for it? Perhaps I’m being dense but I imagine that was always the sticking point.

Am i the only one who hopes Putin says no?

Trump would have no choice but to flip sides again. (or at least confirm he is a Russian asset)
He could easily switch sides again. He switched off intelligence then switched it on again.

Last week he put some tariff on Mexico then took them off again. Today he increased tariffs on Canadian steel from 25% to 50%. A few minutes ago he changed the tariff from 50% to 25%.

Rubio strikes me as the most level-headed of all that administration (trust me that is a backhanded compliment); he's probably had a word in the tyrants ear which has seen the US change tack on this. It can only be a good thing, whether it appeases Putin is another matter.

I expect Russia to agree then in 2 weeks there will be a false flag where a few bombs are dropped on Russia and Ukraine are marketed as the bad guys

Because it puts the ball firmly in the Kremlins court, so now they have to publicly declare their stance. Clever move from Ukraine
