Russian invasion of Ukraine

Yesterday's illegal attack and kidnap of the Venezuelan leader sends a very worrying message to Ukraine.
The Mango Shit Gibbon does not care about international law and cannot now criticise putin.
I worry that he will now look to withdraw all support currently provided to Ukraine and allow putin to do as he wishes and in that respect putin will engage in a war of attrition.

Europe needs to be stronger and more united than we currently are

Stuff 31/12:

Large parts of Moscow in darkness after a Ukraine drone swarm attack on power, water and large scale heating infrastructure.

Thought that was a normal Saturday in Moscow?

He's posting himself to withdraw troops and aid from Ukraine and make it the EU's issue.

Whilst the EU are engaged with Putin he could maybe annex Greenland...

Greenland will happen but that's for another thread. If he pulls out of Ukraine what is there to stop putin probing the e.u./Nato defences. That may then force money and hardware earmarked for Ukraine to be diverted to home security.

I think the only option the UK and the rest of civilised Europe has to respond to this is to align themselves more closely to China.

He's already withdrawn aid from Ukraine.
The US hasn't paid a penny to the Ukraine since about May. Ukraine has been provided with US arms paid for by Europe.

Radical But your comment just sums up how bad things are since Trump got elected.
Yes, I had to double check before posting, but that’s where we are, lamentably.

I think there’s a widespread assumption this will simply reset in 2028, or even before. There is no guarantee of that. I wouldn’t even say it was likely as things stand.

We need to start thinking the unthinkable. Russia are cunts who we should have nothing to do with, so the only superpower worth contemplating aligning ourselves more closely with is China. They are certainly no angels, but they are rational, strategic and extremely powerful. They are also never vocalise disrespect towards our country, unlike Trump.

As things stand, definitely the lesser of two evils imo.

And also a way to potentially weaken Russia.

Far worse than Putin ffs.

Which sovereign nations has China invaded since the CCP were running the gaff?
Tibet, South Korea.
And to a lesser degree (border skirmishes): India, Soviet Union.

But that’s generally the 50’s,60’s and 70’s. So in recent years not much.

But I can see Taiwan getting a bit nervous. Iirc the Chinese did a mock invasion (fleet, aircraft deployed into waters around Taiwan) in the last week… which given the US posturing of the past month around Venezuela, prior to its actual direct action…

China has a far more legitimate claim to Taiwan than the US does to Venezuela, Iraq or Greenland.

And on a similar note, I never understood the outrage we expressed when our treaty with China expired and Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule. How dare they have our island !
Did we? Thought the general attitude was one of resignation.

It was legally binding, and this was a time when we faithfully respected International Law.
