Ruthless summer clear out

Out of our current first-team squad I think the absolute certainties for next season are Hart, Zabaleta, Richards, Kompany, Nastasic, Clichy, Yaya Toure, Rodwell, Sinclair, Javi Garcia, Silva, Aguero.

Outside of that you have Milner, Barry, Lescott, Kolarov, Tevez, Dzeko, Maicon, Nasri, Pantilimon and Kolo Toure that I'm still not entirely sure about.

Bridge and Santa Cruz will be released.

The story is told of Abramovich speaking to Txiki Begiristain, who was director of football at Barcelona until June 2010 and has since taken up a similar role at Manchester City, last year. What would he need, Abramovich asked, to turn Chelsea into Barcelona? £100m? £200m? £500m? To which Begiristain is said to have replied, 10 years. Barcelona's success is not the result of a great coach or great players, or rather not just of a great coach and great players, but of consistency of philosophy that began in the seventies and has been followed fairly rigorously since Johan Cruyff took over in 1989.

What about Adel Taarabt.

Every time I see the player he impresses me. Really positive and direct with his play. He's never scared to shoot and is a free kick specialist.

It's a no brainer.

Jinxed him big time. Just missed a penalty but amusing to watch saggychops Redknapp muttering to himself.

Much as I rate Barry he could be added to the Summer clear out as age will eventually catch him up, and if we want to improve in Europe then we should be looking for an upgrade.

Milner won't go, he's not on 150k a week and is performing well in a few positions so I would think he's safe.

Nasri on the other hands...

Depending on how much game time he gets I could see Milner wanting out.

Milner, Barry, Lescott, and Sinclair - they can't all go because of the homegrown rule. Well they COULD go but we'd probably find ourself submitting a 21 man squad or something because of said homegrown rule.

What is the cut-off date for a 20 -> 21 year old being eligible for first team registration next season? Guidetti is 21 in April, the age they move from the U21 to senior squad list but do they count those who turn 21 after January of the same year?

Assuming we plan, and were a year ahead of expectations, the club will surely have a clear idea of what it expects. I suspect we might not see the wholesale changes anticipated by many and rather one or two experienced players brought in to add CL experience. I also suspect we'll start to see, say 3, academy players on the bench on a more regular basis, and not just when our injury list has grown.
