Ryan Bertrand

Just a genuine question. I see many people demanding we sign Mendy and that Bertrand is not good enough. How many times have people watched these players for a full match. Do people genuinely believe they have watched enough games over say the past 2 years to make an assessment?
I keep seeing people ask if others watched teams outside of the Prem. It's not like Mendy came from some club in Bolivia. Monaco was one of the best teams to watch in all of Europe this past season. Mendy was one of the many highlights of the squad.

I've also seen people talk about Mendy's time at OM without highlighting that OM was in a bit of a mess during the time Mendy was there, letting go top players and signing crap in return. They currently have an over the hill Evra at LB and our own Karim Rekik hasn't had the best of times there. But Marcelo Bielsa who Pep says is one of the best managers in the world and one who he's says has influenced his own tactics in many ways once said that a young Mendy is a £30M player while at OM. And this was 2-3 years ago. Bielsa couldn't get all of the best out of Mendy but Jardim was able to unlock that potential to prove Bielsa right.

Meanwhile Bertrand was another Chelsea serial loanee who played a handful of games for Chelsea to pick up some medals who finally found his feet in a midtable squad at the tender age of 27. People look down on English players and those who play for the national team because this current generation is largely average compared to other top nations. Bayern are replacing Lahm with Kimmich. That's top of the line depth. Bayern also added Süle from Hoffenheim who's headed to the Confederation'a Cup with Germany. Instead of a Bertrand we should be looking for younger English talent who might be cheaper than Bertrand's reported fee and one who could possibly be molded into a future top talent ready to step in and become the starter. Perfect recent example is Rob Holding who stepped up and looked like a bargain for Arsenal when he was finally given games. I'd personally go for Ryan Sessegnon over Ryan Bertrand to possibly back up Mendy .

Keep seeing Ryan Sessegnon's name thrown about as back up to Mendy.. Mendy is only 22, when would Sessegnon get his chance? in like 10 years?

Lahm old - Kimmich young and doesn't want to play right back anyway?
Boateng, Hummels & Martinez - all 28 and injury prone, well Boateng is just a crock - Sule young

D.Silva old - B.Silva young
Aguero old - Jesus young
Nolito old - Sane young
Navas old - Sterling young

Always thought he was a decent player but nothing more. Kinda like Clichy was

If we're signing a backup LB I woulda thought Sessegnon would be the better bet.

Sessegnon is 17 and isn't ready to be back up at a top side. Having both Bertrand and Mendy would give us superb depth and a genuine bit of quality on the left side. Something we've lacked for a few years due to Clichys drop off.

Just reading a saints forum and someone posted a tweet saying Bertrand has agreed a 5 year contact with City. Don't know if the source is reliable but was apparently re tweeted by matt le tiss.
