Safe stand - Views changed ?

German grounds were designed and built to accomodate standing and in some areas it is a simple matter of removing the seats to allow it and they can do this game by game replacing the seats when they want to. It is my understanding that none of our grounds could be adapted without enormous expense to allow it. I am no expert in the matter but because of the current design of the stadiums you cannot simply take the seats out and let everyone stand, so even if the Government changed the legislation the clubs would not be able to afford the cost.

(besides which half the City fans I know are so damn awkward they would then sit down !)
How much does it cost to rip a few thousand seats out?
It doesn't cost much at all to rip some seats out but there is (whether you like it or not) Health and Safety to consider. What happens when everyone pushes forward after a goal is scored ? If I have understood it correctly, none of our grounds would get a safety certificate in their present form.

If it has proven to be safe in countries like Germany, the ban on (safe) standing has no justification anymore. This country is health and safety mad, safe standing would bring a lot of atmosphere back to football and possibly have a positive influence on ticket prices. I'd be one of the first to relocate to a safe standing area.

You put in barriers between each row of fans, it doesn't cost much surely.

Not a lot, but safe standing requires a little more than that... everyone in safe standing still has a seat .

Stupid questions here no doubt, but if everyone in safe standing still has a seat, why does the "Standing " end of Dortmunds stadium increase in capacity by over 10000 when seating for European games is converted to standing for German League games??

When our hero Kevin Keegan came to manage City I went to a pre season friendly at Hamburg we were treated like human beings, there was standing areas you could walk round most of the ground, you had beer brought to you while you watched the game, The food was very good and a fair price, we are treated like animals and pay a lot of money to watch football, standing up has never killed anyone it needs to be done in the right way but must be brought back. It would also increase the amount of spaces so it would increase attendance without building extensions.

For those who are saying it won't cost much, fine. You pay for it. Our stadium is designed as an all seater and hasn't been adapted. What you all fail to grasp us that if block 120 is standing you automatically obscure the view of those in adjacent blocks, not that those who stand now give a shit. So it's not as simple as lots think.

But if they did introduce safe standing it would most likely be for 111, 110 and the south stand so there is no view to block.

But you wouldnt have the cut off at 120 you have it where it did not make a difference to those who are seated looking at the seating plan you could eaily have it from 122 to 111 and not obstruct anyone view.

Because 2 people are allowed to stand in the area only one person would normally sit.

If we decided that the whole south stand (119-111) was standing then nobody in the adjacent blocks would have any obstruction whatsoever. It really is quite simple.

But the guy above said, every one standing has a seat, hence my question!! How can they have, if theres 2 people standing for every seat...
