Safe stand - Views changed ?

Big crowds in paddocks were the problem - not big open terraces. If Liverpool had been given the kop end then there wouldn't have been a disaster.

For those who are saying it won't cost much, fine. You pay for it. Our stadium is designed as an all seater and hasn't been adapted. What you all fail to grasp us that if block 120 is standing you automatically obscure the view of those in adjacent blocks, not that those who stand now give a shit. So it's not as simple as lots think.
But you wouldnt have the cut off at 120 you have it where it did not make a difference to those who are seated looking at the seating plan you could eaily have it from 122 to 111 and not obstruct anyone view.

Stupid questions here no doubt, but if everyone in safe standing still has a seat, why does the "Standing " end of Dortmunds stadium increase in capacity by over 10000 when seating for European games is converted to standing for German League games??
Because 2 people are allowed to stand in the area only one person would normally sit.

But the guy above said, every one standing has a seat, hence my question!! How can they have, if theres 2 people standing for every seat...
That is wrong, I think he means that there still has to be seat in the area people will stand not necessarily a seat each, the idea of safe standing is that you fit more people in to a lot of small areas, to give a larger overall attenance - if everyone had a seat the capacity would be the same.

This is Dortmunds standing area although the amount of crush barriers looks inadequate to me:

Something like this looks much safer: (and can fairly easily be switched to seating for UEFA)

Safe Standing?

After everything that has come out today. Do we now think we can move forward with regard to Safe Standing?

I don't like standing at all personally. When I go to away games I hate it when everyone is standing and I always scrape my calves on the seat frames because they jut out. Plus someone is always in your way because their mate didn't get a ticket next to them but they'll stand there anyway. Bolton's about the worst for that. In fact I'm not arsed about going to away games now because I know I'll end up standing which is bad enough, but also behind the goal, which is the view I hate. So paying 50 quid for that just isn't an option.

I realise that this is my personal opinion, although it would be interesting to see just how many people, say seasoncard holders, would, if they got the chance, stand in a standing area rather than sit down in their seat.

There seems to be quite a vociferous campaign for standing areas, but I wonder whether this is the majority verdict or not. I know that the people who are sc holders behind the goal and are in the singing section are of a certain culture and I'm sure the vast majority of those, if not all, would support standing areas. Not sure about the rest of the ground though.

I am nearly 60 years old I hate to be told that I have to sit down to watch football, And thats one of the reasons I also go to watch Prestatyn Town when City are not playing. You just get a better match day feeling standing like the old Kippax.

That's the thing though. The safe standing would only be in one area (bottom tier of the south stand) which everyone stands up in already. Nobody would have to be moved but more people could move into that area. Some people do want to sit down and that's fine as the majority of the stadium would still be seated.

There are plenty of people who want to stand but probably nowhere near the majority. Does it need to be the majority? We are not asking for everybody to stand, just for an area in which we can do so, seperate from the seats so as not to block anybody else's view. Back in the day, most clubs provided seating and standing areas for away fans too so that even away fans didn't have to stand if they didn't want to. This is all we want.

Exactly.. give people options, then people who want to sit are hapy as there view isnt blocked by people standing. And people standing arent annoyed by people asking them to sit down. Problem solved for everyone, and everyones happy.... Doesnt seem like rocket science to me. If they can do it in Germany safely and other countries, theres really no reason left to not be allowed to do it here. Problem might be the stadium designs, but they can be changed if theres the will....
