Safe Standing: Rail Seating in South Stand

There’s only singing in a couple of blocks of South Stand Level 1 on a regular basis.

I’ve noticed this thread is very quiet compared with posters who’ve been telling us for years that the Etihad will be rocking once rail seating is introduced. Maybe some other posters are gutted that City Matters have achieved this.
Probably because the news broke late in the evening. I was in bed when it broke and only found out when I got up this morning. A few on our WhatsApp group heard last night though and we’re all buzzing about it. @jrb is one and is all over this thread ;) I’m also pleasantly surprised about the news as I was under the impression that the idea had stalled for now.
It doesn’t matter who gets name-checked. We’ve gotten what we wanted and have campaigned for for years which is the main thing. The club could’ve name-checked the Spirit Of Shankly group for all I care!

I know 1894 have been pivotal too mate and JRB is a legend on the stadium threads. I was aiming my comment more on the overall tone of responses to the OP, than any group. Let’s face it, without 1894 there would have been less singing in is South Stand L1 in recent years.

I was thinking more about the thousands who stand in South Stand L1 with their arms crossed contributing little to the atmosphere. The Family Stand gets plenty of criticism on this Forum but take out your singers and there’s not a lot of difference in atmosphere, at most games, between the Family Stand and South Stand

Good news, I hope it’s just the start. I’d love to see it carry on right round East stand level 1 aka the kippax

why was something like this embargoed? also when this is finished what will be the total capacity?
I think the capacity will be just under 54k because 1,100 seats are being removed for the bigger LED screens and the rail seats won’t add to capacity.

Is that something the fans in that area of the ground want though? Perhaps the area that they are currently doing is sufficient to meet demand for standing at this time.

Stop fishing!

Why would other posters be gutted? City have been discussing standing and safe standing with other City groups for years, and have been keeping them informed and up to date with developments.

City Matters are now the official club link to the fans, so they will be consulted more about this development and any other developments taking place at the club on a regular basis. Remember, we voted the City Matter reps in. That doesn’t mean the club doesn’t speak to other fan groups, not officially linked to the club.

No! People like me (I’ve just outed myself) have posted installing rail seating and safe standing ‘might improve’ the atmosphere in the section of the Stadium where it is installed. Which in turn might have a knock on effect and improve the atmosphere in other parts of the stadium. We will see in the coming seasons.

Unfortunately there are always some divisive posters on BM who are looking to score points and sh*t stir. You’ve just become one of those posters. How to turn a positive into a negative. Well done.

PB.

Are you allowed to explain the capacity increases or decreases safe standing will bring in? As a norm safe standing seats are closer together, so the capacity should increase in SSL1. But that depends on the type of safe standing being installed, and the configuration of it.

I’m 101% sure you can’t go into this, but I’ll ask anyway, on the off chance you might just be able to give a slight indication. ;-)

Are there going to be any season ticket price changes to reflect safe standing in SSL1?

In 118 and I’m buzzing. Great news, can’t wait
