Safe Standing: Rail Seating in South Stand

City need to decide what they're doing with the stadium for the longer term. Where the Family Stand goes, where the single, contiguous singing section should be, where the away fans go, how far round the ground they're going to install rail seating, rather than pissing about here and there, shifting odd blocks or 1,000 seats. Just do it.
Agree they do, but until a decision is made to go ahead or hold off the extension they can’t really. They need to either plan the next years either with or without the extension and do it properly. Thiis sounds like they are either expecting a small trial to me.
However your general point I agree they need a whole ground plan and to make any changes in one big move now would have been an ideal time unless there is going to be movement on extending sometime soon.

Great move in the right direction. We all know that there is nothing inherently wrong with standing at a game of football. It's not for everyone and it will not turn the Etihad into the Bombonera. But it will make a difference.

I know 1894 have been pivotal too mate and JRB is a legend on the stadium threads. I was aiming my comment more on the overall tone of responses to the OP, than any group. Let’s face it, without 1894 there would have been less singing in is South Stand L1 in recent years.

I was thinking more about the thousands who stand in South Stand L1 with their arms crossed contributing little to the atmosphere. The Family Stand gets plenty of criticism on this Forum but take out your singers and there’s not a lot of difference in atmosphere, at most games, between the Family Stand and South Stand
All fair points. That's my concern too - that the non-singers in the South Stand will negate some potential improvement in atmosphere once safe standing comes in. Nobody should be forced to sing of course but we've incredibly had examples of people in 115 telling singers to stop singing.....despite it being a singing section ffs! That's just plain wrong and it would be good if some fans from quieter areas of the ground who feel nervy about singing could relocate to the South Stand. We might even tempt you down from the posh seats too!

Stop fishing!

Why would other posters be gutted? City have been discussing standing and safe standing with other City groups for years, and have been keeping them informed and up to date with developments.

City Matters are now the official club link to the fans, so they will be consulted more about this development and any other developments taking place at the club on a regular basis. Remember, we voted the City Matter reps in. That doesn’t mean the club doesn’t speak to other fan groups, not officially linked to the club.

No! People like me (I’ve just outed myself) have posted installing rail seating and safe standing ‘might improve’ the atmosphere in the section of the Stadium where it is installed. Which in turn might have a knock on effect and improve the atmosphere in other parts of the stadium. We will see in the coming seasons.

Unfortunately there are always some divisive posters on BM who are looking to score points and sh*t stir. You’ve just become one of those posters. How to turn a positive into a negative. Well done.
That’s your opinion and you are welcome to it. We need more singers as a priority over changes to seat designs, although I welcome the introduction of rail seating.

I’ve said 1894 have done a good job so maybe it’s time for a few posters to get a thicker skin about a bit if a credit going to City Matters and the Club. Everyone knows 1894 have been lobbying for this for yonks.

I genuinely feel this news is as good as the great season we’re currently having on the pitch. It’s never just been about the football for many of us and this is a huge step in the right direction to improving the atmosphere and increasing our enjoyment when attending matches. I said I was pleasantly surprised at the news as I thought the club had stalled a little but I’m also pleasantly surprised at how extensive it will be. Nearly 6000 (granted some of those will be in the away end) to be converted to rail seating is beyond what I would’ve expected.

I remember reading from someone who went to one of those stadium development meetings that they were going to rebuild the north stand and put the rail seats in there, but I think that development is delayed until after the arena is built so they probably thought they may as well put them in where people stand now.

Most of the people who want to stand are already in that area.
I did a survey on here a while ago and 32.50% said they usually stand but 55% said they were highly likely to use a safe standing section with 15% more sharing they we’re likely to use it. So obviously quite a few would want to relocate
