If you talking about his defensive awareness when he makes his forward runs then it's down to one of the holding midfielders to sit in & cover.
There was lack of awareness full stop this season, defensive or offensive, was just stuck in no mans land or hogging the winger's space to no effect on the miniscule number of times he's actually been fit enough to be given a chance
True. But sagna has this very same annoying problem too, of playing above the winger. Not overlap but in open play. There are only two reasons why we are looking at sagna over micah.
1) micah's injury is a big risk
2) micah wants to leave.
But in terms of attacking, passing, taking on your man, defensive and set piece headers, running with the ball with physical aggresion and the occasional spurt of creativity, micah wins over sagna. He also fires in shots like a striker.
In his form, micah was one of the best RB in the league I have no doubt about it. It was injury coupled with sporadic starts and consequently lack of faith if he will ever deliver that really was the proverbial straw for micah.
Give him a long run and if he stays injury free that awareness will return. Awareness comes with an environment to be constantly aware. If he is not given that of course it will not come back. Unfortunately, we have gone so far that we cannot afford nostalgic commitments anymore.
I believe the best line of action is to loan him out. It will only do good on his value if he gets back on form. If not then we can release him on a free as his contract is running oit anyway.
Sagna is a stopgap and has his good days, but he also loses his ball and gets his pass intercepted too often for me to remember. Ironically, we are in a position where we just cant negotiate or we are again stuck with running zabaleta to the ground.
