I think you seriously overestimate our capabilities. England are now like City, pre-Mansour - get a favourable draw and we might, just might, make the quarter finals in a tournament. Anything more is a pipe dream. On that basis, Sam's your man. He'll get more than the sum of the parts out of our deficient players.
Again I point to the rugby and cricket teams, the rugby team didnt have any world class players apparently, didnt even get out of the group in the last world cup on home soil, yet appoint an Aussie who knows what he is doing and we have gone to Australia and won 3-0 for a series win for the first time ever. The cricket team in the world cup were woeful, years behind other teams in strategy and technique apparently, county cricket not producing players who were capable, we appoint a forward thinking foreign coach and all of a sudden we have a team that got to the T20 final, won the Ashes and in one day cricket look an entirely different team.
We have set the bar horribly low with this appointment. The only positive i can think of is at least it isnt the elephant man.
