Sam Allardyce

None of the world cup winning rugby side are still playing, so the fact they won it is completely irrelevant to the current side and the most recent grand slam before this years one was 2003. England were an abject failure in the recent world cup, worse than the football team in the Euros, yet within months of getting a new manager who knows what he is doing, won the grand slam and we have never won a series in Australia before, even the world cup winning side.

The criticism the cricket team got for sacking Cook on the eve of the world cup, players not having a clue how to respond to the coach who came out with garbled messages and interviews that made little sense, talking about data and stats when the team had just been slaughtered, suddenly the same players under a new coach played with a completely different style and with confidence that was lacking only months before. We went out of the world cup having been beaten by Bangladesh. The side hasnt been in a world cup final since 1992, we were so lowly ranked we nearly had to qualify for the 2006 champions trophy and havent been ranked number 1 in one day cricket for decades. Root is the only player we have who is in the top 10 for either discipline in ODI cricket and it says everything that Anderson is our top ranked bowler despite hardly playing that format over the last 2 years, sad state of affairs because the players are coming from such a low ranking that they are only just appearing near the top Buttler for example isnt in the top 10 due to a shocking world cup but since Bayliss has taken over is one of the most destructive batsmen in the shorter format. The test side peaked to be number 1 however soon tailed off to be 6th, a ranking we are only now recovering from. Anyone describing Lancaster and Moores as anything other than disastrous is being generous.

If your happy with fat Sam then thats for you, but he wouldnt rank in the top 10 managers in the PL let alone the world for me, the FA have settled for mediocrity just because he is English and there are no other Englishmen. Anyone thinking that good management is shouting and ranting at people is living in the dark ages.
He may or may not be in the top 10 managers in the PL but he is certainly the top English manager in the PL. Just because the English coaching system is not fit for purpose, we should just go out and hire any old mercenary to run our teams? What is the point of international sport, if it's not our best blokes against their best blokes? The reason most of our footballers are no good is because we have nothing like the same numbers of coaches as Spain, Germany, Italy and France. It's a never ending circle which your suggestion of getting in foreign coaches will go a long way to address! If Iceland can have an Icelandic coach and the Welsh can have a Welsh coach England should be capable of looking after themselves.
Also, have you seen Joachim Low's club management record? Save for taking over an already successful Stuttgart team for 2 years he was hopeless. What teams on the continent know is that if you know how to coach, you know how to coach. How you think Sam has stayed in the game so long and doesn't know what he's doing is laughable.

Didnt say he didnt know what he is doing at any point, he is perfectly good at saving teams from relegation, but all he has actually won is a couple of promotions and has no tournament experience. The FA have a lot more money than the Icelandic or Welsh FA, probably more than any other FA and can afford to get the very best but they have settled for mediocrity, which you are happy with.

The problem in England is a lack of coaching, I dont care if the coaches are from Mars, if they are here coaching our kids to be better then that is a good thing. More needs to be done to get more qualified coaches into the country, whatever their nationality, but that has little to do with who is the manager of the senior England side.

The top English manager in the PL? Big Sam? We are fucked.

Eddie Howe was the obvious choice. A new start, out with the old etc etc, solid coach, great man management skills, sound tactical ability.

Is Fernando Santos one of the 'top 10 managers in the world'?

If you think that Allardyce just shouts and rants then you haven't been paying attention.

No I dont but he's won a fuck load more as a manager than Allardyce.

The comment about shouting and ranting was in response to someone saying that Fat Sam might actually bollock the primadona players, not something I accused him of at all.

It's not academy coaching I am talking about it's well before that. England has just over 1300 EUFA A and pro licences. Spain has just over 15,000. They coach kids in schools and those playing Sunday football. Our kids get well meaning John who pops in to coach the u-9's when he finishes work. They play competitive games every week and if his kids are developing technically but losing, he's likely getting a pile of abuse from some no-mark. He will then start picking the 'bigger boys', they'll win a few games but the potential English David Silva won't get a look in and is likely lost to the game!
Another example of the system you've got being perfectly designed to give the results it does. Brilliant......
