Samir Nasri

Farewell Samir, great talent, thanks for the memories.

Plays for Chelsea they get 20m for him. We are the Santa Claus of the transfer market.

A player is only worth what others are willing to pay.

TBH, I think teams like West Ham missed a trick here. Even when not applying himself to a 100% he is far superior to any of their players and would contribute some much needed creativity and goals. Nasri, Lanzini and Kayoute (sp?) would be a very useful midfield. They paid £10m for Snodgrass, ffs.

Newcastle too. Both big clubs that he would have been attracted to.

Great player when he put his mind to it. I remember watching him play for Arsenal at our place and thinking "I'd love a player like that here". I'll always remember the look on his face as we trounced Spurs in the first title season.

Haha. I remember. He had a look of disbelief when we were trouncing them.

Although Dzejko got the hattrick, Nasri was arguably MOTM.

Chelsea, Madrid, Barca etc. always manage to offload their unwanted players without issue. Wages are the issue, hopefully that's been addressed with recent recruits.

Barca gave Mathieu for free despite having year left on contract, simply to get his wages off the books. Real loaned James Rodriguez to Bayern + Fabio Coentrao to Sporting. Its not easy for Real and Barca either.

Very few top teams think that they get value when selling. We think that United do but their fans beg to differ.
Samir has high wages and shit the bed last season when his club took him out of the team because of his attitude so 10m plus the saved wages is a good return on an unwanted player.
Having said that he's been a worthwhile signing all in all so I wish him well.

Mathieu is 33 with little to no market value and Coentrao lost his place at Madrid due to being injured for nearly a year. James, Bayern are covering his wages and paying Madrid approx. 12m loan fee with a 40m option to buy.

Read somewhere today that we got 12m for him - knew that was too good to be true

Hate to say this, and fuel any fires, but this is the long term cost/effect of winning the Leagues and Cups. We needed some top class players to kickstart the rebuilding of the team, and we paid top dollar for players...transfers and wages. I'm under no illusion that is why they came.

Today, with The Project having delivered a squad, a manager, a management team, and a stadium, bringing in players is easier. With the levels of money sloshing around the Premier League, the bifurcation of haves and have nots will continue, but even average British players will be able to command top fees and wages to meet the Squad Limits. Get rid of the squad limits and you will see British fees drop dramatically...and the number of British players at the top teams diminish dramatically!

City generally dont get top dollar for players, because we usually squeeze the last best years out of them before moving them on, mainly because we have bought those players later in their careers. This, too, will change in the near future.

Think it's time we let someone else run our transfer business for us - Txiki's had a good run, but we need a change.

Nasri's got the drip doctor cloud hanging over him.. remember there was talk of a possible upcoming ban! There must be a reason why a club is England, Scotland, Spain or France hasn't had a look.. and don't tell me it's wages - it's 100% not that.
