Sandro Tonali

Rodri right now is only a shadow of what he used to be 2 years ago, it won't be that big of a blow. We went 8/8 wins in December (including Madrid away) with Nico G. Anderson+Nico G or Anderson+Tonali (in case Nico G also leaves) would be more than fine.
Rodri was brilliant in that final last week. I would not call him a shadow of what he used to be. Maybe not at his peak but a shadow? Come on.

He still ranks 1st for midfielders in duals won and progressive passes this season (along with almost every other relative statistic) while not being up to peak fitness. We don't need to pretend he's just another player because of his Madrid comments.

Dont act like it's the most likely outcome.

He's been pretty open saying it's not what he expected and wants to play etc.
Still doesn’t say he’s going to go. Same for Pep, Rodri, Bernardo ( for the last ten years) and all the others. You’re another wet wipe who thinks we’re a tin pot club and everyone wants to leave.

If we are talking about wet wipes I’d be annoyed if he is happy to stay here and be on the bench. He’s clearly not first choice and I’d be disappointed in him if he didn’t pursue a move. Donna isn’t getting dropped.

I’m happy for Trafford it looks like he’ll go to the World Cup.

I thought that even before his Madrid comments, first commented about that in December. After the injury he had, you can never be the same player again. If we're going to rebuild, I don't think he should be part of it.

So every top team in the world has a shit, happy to be second choice keeper? Ok, let’s go for a shit, happy to be here, clubman of the year no hoper for substitute keeper.
I want someone who challenges the main man, someone with real bottle. Obviously you don’t. This is top level, not Sunday League.

If you don’t think he’s approaching the player he was before his injury you need to watch more closely. He and Bernardo just dominated the arsenal midfield.

Can see that happening

Hopefully not. Statistically he’s right at the top for PL defensive midfielder qualities like tackles won, interceptions and pass accuracy. Though he’d likely cost a tad more than Anderson. Both decent though Tonali shades it numbers-wise.

It isn’t a DM we want though as far as we know , the good news if there was any truth in this, is if they are going for Tonali, it’s probably because they know Anderson, the better player long term, isn’t an option.

Well there’s only 3 years between them at 24 vs 21 but I take your point about longer term. In terms of DM, I was just considering it in terms of these recent quotes from Rodri and so was looking at it purely from a DM pov. If that’s not the question then yep, makes what I was considering a bit irrelevant, agreed.

Craig Hope is well connected and has the inside track at Newcastle.
He's a top player but they will want £100m for him I suspect.

Can see that too tbf. Though I’m assuming that means you think we’d need to look outside the PL if a replacement was needed for Rodri leaving this summer?
I think we may work within if he and Bernardo leaves. Both Nico people in midfield possibly.
