Sane left out of Germany World Cup Squad

Opening matches aren’t particularly good indicators for performance... but, as many of us have pointed out, when things are not working, you need a different sort of player for different sort of tactics, and leaving out Sane means Germany only has like-for-like players available to “change” the match. I think leaving Sane and Wagner out was a big mistake, as they have no one to shift tactics when needed.

Er no selecting Draxler and Brandt over Sane is like shooting yourself in the foot. Good news for everyone else at the world cup and that's for sure.

Up front, Gomez is over the hill and Reus is not the player he once was (indeed it could be said that he is an injury looking for a place to happen), whilst Werner is bang average. Of course Germany win penalty shoot outs by defaul but it really isn't the German squad of 4 years ago.

OK I was wrong they can't defend either. Woeful fullback show today. They were so lucky that Mexico left their shooting boots back at the hotel.
