Saudi Pro League

They are 3-4 windows away from being a top 5 league.

The average crowd in their league was 9,000 last season. One match had a crowd of 284.

Nobody is interested in it in their own country. Let alone anywhere else.

If you think they are going to be transformed into a “top” league within 1 1/2 to 2 seasons, on the strength of a bunch of European has-beens popping over for a bumper pension, I think you’re going to be in for a bit of a disappointment mate.

Destined to fail. Will never be able to support itself, because no matter who they buy no one wants to watch Al-Shassim v Al-Abdul. Time zones also represent an issue, when its day time in Saudi Arabia, its the early hours of the morning in Europe. No mass market western country is going to watch Saudi football.
Eh? I thought there was only one hour shift between Italy and Saudi Arabia!? :)

The Saudi League will also need to pay, double, triple, quadruple, the salaries the European clubs play. Add the two together and there is a massive black financial hole that needs to be filled, likely by the state.

Its such a fallacy and only a lunatic drunk on power would think it will be a major success. Reminds of the story were the old North Korean Kim wanted to host a kind of Olympic games in 1988 to 'draw attention away from the Seoul Olympics in 1988 to embarrass South Korea'. Of course no one gave a toss about some North Korean athletes competing enough to not watch the Seoul Olympics. Bin Salman is a wally for thinking this will have a happy ending. This is why governments and states that dont have a meritocracy are forever in the bin.

All this does is represent a time for European clubs to milk some naive Saudi's and hustle them for their money.

Naive Saudis?

I think you will find they are much more sophisticated than the dinosaurs running the FA and the PL and will be absolutely ruthless in meeting their objectives.

The mistake being made here is in thinking they are trying to rival the PL. They aren't. This is part of a decades long project to modernise the country through, in part, participation in sporting events. Golf was a start. Now football and a World Cup is next. They will pay ridiculous wages to start it up, they will pay the press to say how wonderful the Saudi league is, they will pay Infantino and the federations to get the World Cup in 2034. They won't be subjected to anywhere near the levels of "sportswashing" hate City get and they will meet their objectives for sport in their modernisation project. I have no doubt about that.

But don't assume for one minute they are trying to build up a financially sustainable league to rival the PL and that, if they don't, they will have "failed".

Never underestimate the power of money
The cunts at uefa and fifa would bend over at the thought of trillions in their coffers.
The Saudis are not stupid and are already mopping up sport and lots of other things around the world.
However difficult it may be to emulate European leagues they will find a way to infiltrate footballs governing bodies because money rules everything.

KSAs long term ambitions are amazing and they have leadership and finance to support it.

KSA is the coming phenomenon.

A vast land mass and unspoilt coast lines will result in Europeans holidaying there within a decade.

Didn't the Chinese league do something similar a few years ago? Chinese clubs bought Oscar from Chelsea, a few decent players from Atletico Madrid. Looking at the stats of these players when they played in China it's obvious they went there for a big payday. I reckon the same will happen with the Saudi league. No one will take it seriously and no one ultimately gives a fuck about any of the teams, other than cringey 'CR7' fan boys
My thoughts exactly. It might be good for the country's image if it continues for a few years but it will never rival the longer established leagues.
Crap7 may have some fanboys but the majority of supporters follow a team not an individual.

So it turns out they are all massive hypocrites
Henderson, gerrard etc
Morals out the window, sports washing now acceptable
Guessing Liverpool will happily accept a fee for him as well!!
Can see Thiago next

Highly doubt they’ll be any interest in Europe, outside of a bit of curiosity in the first week or two.

Watching a bunch of semi pros, with a couple of over the hill recognisable faces, strolling around in the desert sun, is hardly going to be box office.
Reminds me of all the knackered players going to the US to end their careers in the 80's. 'Sportswashing' mustn't have been invented back then.

If you want to have these arguments then I think you need to start by defining what makes a league a "top league"?
