savic watch

Kurple I think most reasonable people don't expect us to sign a world class backup CB. Just someone with experience who can handle a tough environment, and who won't get physically dominated by a Championship striker. The woodwork saved our arses yesterday.

Someone like Samba or Hangeland. Not brilliant but familiar with the league and is a presence. Doesn't mean we lost faith in Savic but no one can reasonably expect a 20 year old who played with Partizan to step into a hostile away game in the PL.

Its also important that we have the right mix of CB's. Savic. Kolo & Lescott are all more suited to playing alongside a big dominant centre half than playing that role themselves. We might need to release one, probably Kolo, and bring in a more suitable back up to Vinnie.

My choice would be Richard Dunne!

I thought Lescott was supposed to be the big thumping CB.

He is. Vinnie is the one who actually plays with a bit more subtlety. In any case if people are writing off Savic, then they have no idea. How many times already, (Tevez, Silva, Balotelli, Dzeko, Toure) have people jumped the guns and said the player was not good enough, only to wind up with egg on there face. The lad is good enough, he just needs time and games. He can't get any better sat on his ass watching some replacement centreback (Samba, Hangeland) come in and do the job, slightly better.

hes 20 ffs and will be class lets no ruin him before hes even got going its prob the hardest position to come in at at we wont face many tougher away games despite qpr's position in table.

Center half and goal keeper are the two toughest positions on a pitch, no doubt. That is why you rarely see young-ish players in those positions.

So Savic did good. And will do better.

I wouldn't judge him on one full game.

I was surprised that he was "outjumped" in the way that he was because he was excellent in that department when confronted by Zigic in an earlier game. However Zigic does appear to be one of the big lads who isn't so great in the air so maybe not the right opponent to judge him against.

Helguson is one of the best headers of the ball in football, remember how he towered above Richards to put a header back across goal for dopey Ferdinand to miss, so don't be too harsh on the lad for losing out to him.

Lets be honest how many times did Barton put a cross in like that for us when they scored their first! I recall hearing many times "come on Barton get it past the first man, Jesus!"

He's young and he needs to get stronger, gain confidence and be less headstrong.

He is obviously a decent footballer. I'm sure Roberto will find opportunities for him to develop but maybe the Premiership will not be his classroom just yet.

Told you my earlier post would jinx him. Bit of a baptism of fire but the experience will do him good; I expect he will come on for having had that game.

Interesting that for the goal, Richards & Lescott swapped over?

Micah told Jolo to mark Helgusson - and he was captain!

He had a off game and was responsible for all goals conceded, but he's very young and is just getting started at City, so I wouldn't write him off.
