Savinho | City reject Spurs approach

I hope I am wrong but I think Marmoush could potentially become something of a problem for us. He’s not replacing Haaland up top and he has looked poor out wide. His saving grace over his competition is that he knows where the back of the net is and the others seemingly do not.
Would love to know what your definition of "poor out wide" is considering his record for City so far is 11 G/A in 20 starts.

I do think as well Pep prefers ready made players to younger. It's why I think he plays Gundo , Bernardo etc Reijnders went straight into the team. If Savinho goes I just see him pushing for a ready made winger. Plug and play type

Towards the end of last season when Pep was going with Marmoush out wide and Haaland up front it simply wasn't working, Marmoush is very ineffective playing out wide.

He needs to be playing up front or just in behind Haaland, The lad will score plenty of goals and create goals in central areas.

Interesting to see what Pep comes up with next season when they are both in the staring 11.

The older players are staying because they have contracts. We've been signing players to replace them since January.

Guardiola isn't going to walk before the end of his.

This is one of Bluemoon's most stupid lines and is repeated far too frequently.
Let’s see.

We really don't know, but at the same age Mahrez was only just about to have his first season playing regular Ligue 2 football. Savinho gets criticism for not scoring, but Riyad didn't score much in Ligue 2 or the Championship, and only got 4 goals in his first PL season. He was four years older than Savinho is now, when he really started scoring more regularly.

Got to say I'm surprised by this one, as he was probably our best winger in the first half of last season, and I was looking forward to seeing him play when the team have a lot more confidence.
I suppose I never saw Mahrez at that age, but Savinho would have to train on leaps and bounds to be better than him

The squad needs trimming, and whilst Savinho wouldn't be the first one we'd choose to go, we're probably not that bothered and will take the opportunity.

I’d rather see us sell Doku than Savinho but not too bothered either way if we can get 50million plus for him it’s a good deal

I'd rather we sold doku.
Hope he proves me wrong this season.

To be honest they were both on the chopping block this transfer window. I think we're sticking with the more promising one for 1 more season but both could easily be gone in 12 months time.

Just seems so unnecessary and risky. I'm not his biggest fan but there's obviously a player in there and he's only 21.

Not a fan of this.

And the left? Once Grealish goes, we only have Doku, Marmoush not being a natural wide player. We’re ultimately forcing players out wide (Foden/Bobb/Cherki) to accommodate others in midfield who have no long-term future at the club but who cannot be shifted.
Its looking like Ait Nouri will provide width on the left and if Nunes plays he'll support on the right. Playing 2 as sort of 10s would maybe work

I'm not sure we'll play wingers, think we'll play 3 behind Haaland with overlapping Ait Nouri, and possibly Nunes overlapping on the right.

I can’t help but feel pep is going to walk after this season. Bernardo, ederson, Gundo, stones contracts all expiring at season end and pep seemingly reluctant to let go of his older trusted players.

I think it’s obvious pep gets the final say on the squad make up. This to me feels very short sighted but throughout his time at city we have pretty much done whatever pep wants (which has clearly worked and kept him at city).

This just feels like one last hurrah with the ageing squad that has given the club, fans and pep so much. I know he signed a two year extension but if pep wanted to walk the club wouldn’t stop him.

Maybe I’m just talking absolute bollocks but I really feel next summer pep will leave, we will have a new manager who is more aligned with viana and the club will have a huge summer replacing gundogan, Bernardo etc.

Tend to agree, have been feeling the same.

The weird 1+1 year contract extension that was initially reported just adds fuel to that fire for me.

If Savinho, McAtee and Grealish go, it'd leave us with 6 first team players for the front three positions. This sounds fine but if Cherki gets played a bit deeper, we'd still need one more attacker

Wonder what the plans are for O'Reilly this season

Would be disappointed if we sold him this early into his City career. He's still lacking end product, but there's obvious potential there. If he's decided that he wants to leave then obviously that changes things a bit, but we should be demanding a fee of around £60m.
Yes on that figure - about the same as United are getting for Gjarnacho. 55-60 million guaranteed.

Probably send him on loan to Girona and give Gundo 30 Premier League starts instead ;)

It’s up to the coaches to ensure that there is proper development and rotation. No one player, including Haaland, should be on the pitch ‘to find rhythm and form’. If they’re not doing the business, then they should be on the bench or substituted.
Marmoush needs to start games up top in the first half of the season because we’ll then lose him for AFCON, when Haaland will then be on his own, and players sometimes struggle to find form again after that tournament.

If it helps with the development of some of our excellent youth prospects, and allows them to get minutes (whilst making a profit), I’m all for it
