Scandalous Attendance at Villa Park

The amount of shite we have taken over empty seats , i would have thought we should no better than start a thread like this , the 15/16,000 Villa fans that did turn up should be applauded , granted Villa could have given us another 5,000 seats , but we all know Plod rule when it comes to away fans and segregation etc., so AVFC are not to blame. At least we didnt get beat , so we didnt have to make up a story about one of our disabled fans being abused , there again who could sink that low ?

Whilst I agree we may aswell have given you more tickets, we didn't have to. It was obvious early in the week there was very little interest in the game from our side, our forums were full of fans saying they weren't going even though the tickets were cheap and my family members and mates who usually go, none of them went. We were always going to lose anyway whether you had 6000 there or 9000 so we may aswell have let you have the tickets.

We're bottom of the league, won twice all season and going down with a whimper. Did you expect the ground to be full and rocking? The owner has given up as shown by lack of signings this month and the players at best are terrible, at worst don't care. It's no wonder the fans have also given up. Apathy rules at our club these days, we've all accepted our fate this season already. Yesterday was always going to be a hammering and the stay away fans knew that and saved themselves the pain.

What I will say though is some of your fans have got short memories. It wasn't so long ago that you used to get around 25k for earlier round cup games. Even in January 2014 you got 30,000 for a League Cup semi final first leg against West Ham. You have always had loyal and good support, even when you went down but don't forget where you were. You'll start to sound like your neighbours. Next season I reckon we'll get around 25k for most games, if we're doing well then crowds will obviously increase. Our away support will increase drastically with new grounds and cheaper tickets, paying £40-£50 to watch us lose at your gaff and Old Trafford every season isn't fun any more surprisingly.

By the way I actually thought your attendance the other night against Everton was good despite the stick you've taken about it.

Sorry mate, we can't have opposition fans coming on here and posting sensible comments ;)

Some good points there. I will say that I'm not sure where the decision not to allocate us more tickets came from. I'm not sure it was Villa's decision to be honest as one of our own fans reckoned he spoke to our ticket office and was told that we turned down more tickets because they were worried they wouldn't be able to post them all out on time. Yet our allocation sold out last weekend which would've given the club plenty of time to sell and post out a few thousand more. Or failing that, they could've put an extra allocation on sale for personal callers only. If it is indeed true then it's typical of our ticket office - the staff are friendly enough but no-one seems to have a clue how to run things. We might have a world class team these days but we'll never in my lifetime have a world class ticket office!

As for the attendance on Saturday, you're spot on. If that was us in your position and playing a fantastic Villa team I doubt the figure would've been much different to be honest - you've been in regression for the past 5 or 6 years (pretty much since O'Neill left) so it's hardly surprising that there's a lot of apathy about. If you do indeed go down, while it will be hard to get back up I can see the hardcore Villa support coming together as one and having a fair bit of fun down there, and the prediction of 25k crowds could well be on the low side, especially if you do well.

Unlike some on here, I don't have the same level of dislike for Villa and their fans in general. It's always been a top away day (give me Villa Park over St.Andrews any day of the week) and the fans, in the main, are friendly enough. What some fans might say about us on VillaTalk regarding our new found wealth, etc, doesn't square up with my own personal experiences. Like a lot of stuff you read on the internet, the perception is often markedly different to the reality. Sure, there's bitterness about the Barry and Delph transfers but that isn't much of an issue for me. After the match on Saturday we were outside The Shakespeare near New Street and were talking to a couple of Villa fans and they were sound - one of them said he was embarrassed about the "Where were you when you were shit?" chants and I told him that he shouldn't be embarrassed about anything like that as it's just a bit of banter at the end of the day.

Did you see the absolute media blitz their attendance received in the papers the last few days?

Couldn't move in the newsagents for seeing this on their back pages

Good point. To be fair, there was mention of it in the report in the Sunday Mirror. Plus Villa got a bit of stick in various quarters for getting 25,000 or so for a Monday night league game against Saints last season so our very own Lucky Toma then penned an excellent article in the Daisy Cutter coming out in support of the Villa fans.

I spent a couple of hours both before and after in the new aston social club. I got chatting to plenty of villa fans who clearly love their club. Working class people who have followed villa for decades. They are at a low ebb, with a bleak future. Yet they were drinking and singing, and will continue to follow villa in the championship.
Does this reminds you of another club not too long back. The cnut on talkshite is not representative of them.
Remember where we came from and how lucky we are. Enjoy the ride.
let us not be the ones to rub shut in the faces of others when they are on the floor.

To be fair mate, I don't think we've ever rubbed shit in anyone's faces, purely because it's in our DNA to better than that.

Having said that, if it was Trafford/Candlepool (and now Neverton), I'd buy a skip full of steaming turds and take great pleasure is wiping every face of them tossers in a frenzied attack of shit rubbing, the likes of which has never been seen before, a shit-storm of shit rubbing that would stain their shit ridden faces til the end of eternity.

Then, I'd buy another skip and wipe 'em again, just to make sure...

When we were watching the dross under McLeish and Lambert I actually said "if someone said to me you can go down, have a season in the Championship, come straight back up and rebuild I'd take it". Winning games is a lot more fun than losing every week no matter which league you're in, and people want to watch a winning team. As I said earlier our away support will go up massively because there will be new grounds and towns with cheaper tickets, and we will be going to games thinking we've actually got a chance of winning. I refuse to pay £40+ any more to watch us lose at your place or Man Utd, it's a waste of time, effort and more importantly money. I've got a young family so I can't justify paying £45 any more for a match I know we'll lose before I leave the house. The only problem is I don't think we'll come straight back up, the club is a shambles and rotten from top to bottom.
I think this topic was more aimed at the media than Villa fans. City played Everton and the attendance (50k) was back page news in contrast to Man Utd games in the League Cup which haven't sold out either but have passed by without comment

And you still had Scouse gobshites going on about empty seats when Woodison was between 4-5000 below capacity. Villa fans or at least some of them get my goat up with their obsession with the 'WWYWYWS' song but they seem to be taking their plight relatively well, obviously hurting inside but when it comes to bitterness they are light years behind those warped 'victims'from Woodison

Got to say in addition the stewards and the bloke dishing out duplicates for the away fans were top notch, service with a smile indeed.
