Scariest away day following City

Why would I want to? I found Huddersfield just as vile and backwards. I’ve known some utter ****s from West Yorkshire who know nothing aside from being confrontational. They’re inbred.
Just ask any old time Leeds or even Huddersfield fans what they thought of City fans at Maine rd back in the day...."you may find yourself" (Gabriel)...... halfway to a balanced and productive discussion.
Maybe...

Yep.we have spoke before re Darlo
I do know Darlo...back in the day.
I lived in Darlo for 12 months. It was one of the toughest towns I have ever been in. I worked in a pub there for a while. It was like the wild west at night with gangs of sqauddies from Catterick and other camps plus lads from the pit villages around Durham. Even the women were fighters. I grew up in Manchester and thought I had seen it all till I went there in the mid 80s.

I lived South London at the time when we played Chelsea in 83. Jimmy Tolmie scored a beautiful free kick. We were drinking at Paddington at 11 pm with the London branch and got bottled by a few Chelsea fascists who were still hanging around. Absolute nobs they were at that time.

I've always thought of Hereford as being decent in terms of turn out. I think it has something to do with Garrison towns, Colchester was also a lively town to visit considering the lowly status of the football club, probably to do with having to deal with pissed up squaddies every weekend, sharpens the minds of the locals I'm sure.

As for County, they had deep seated rivalry with Burnley, there were stabbings and slashings on both sides late 80s. One of my first experiences of mither was when Bradford came to Stockport, early 70's, they brought thousands, they came out of the pop side onto the Railway end and virtually cleared it, I got a kick up the arse from a big fucker in silver Docs and a butchers coat. The Everton League cup game was another lively evening.
In the old days loads of City used to go to as Friday night was County night.

Did you go Sheff Utd away with London branch about 85? Train got in about 1pm and there were about 3 lads between 17 and 30. The rest seemed like families or older blokes. Soon as you come out of station there is a pub on corner with their lot watching whose arrived. Copper sent us down one road towards ground, whilst watching about 30 of them head off downthe road next to, it to cut us off. Almost as both roads meet we saw Sheff utd and everyone ran. We could then see the ground and there were some Blues in the distance. Me and another Blue slowed down and he turned and asked them to come on then. Some jumping about but they went back to the pub. Maybe it was cos we werent a crew, or cos it was now closer to the ground im not sure.

No I was back home by then but knew a lot of the branch. Rob... Irish Jim from the Shankill Road....etc

A funny story for me and a couple of my mates anyway was the Forest/City game when Crosby headed it out of Dibble's hand. We went with a few Forest fans on the train, and met them at the station after the game, we were only a couple of minutes in to the journey when this big black guy appears in the carriage and says " right any Forest fans on here are getting chucked off", we showed him our City tops whereas the three Forest fans were literally bricking it all the way back. We never did understand why this guy with a Manchester accent was on our train, he said he didn't know what station he was getting off at.
I was at that match. Still fuming about that cheat Crosby. Ref didn't know the fucking rules

Agreed. No team fancied the Moss. We were not the biggest..the best...the hardest.. . the best organisation.. but we were game.

Lived in Essex in the '70's and when West Ham got relegated in the 77/78 season which was massive for them, my mate who followed WHU all over said ' the only good thing about going down is that we don't have to go to Maine Road next season '. He'd mentioned they'd get battered their every year. My local team - Billericay Town who got to Wembley in the F. A. Vase 3 times were pretty tasty too...……….had trouble with Palace at Redhill and Tottenham at a final in Romford around that time - in fact, more grief following them than City...….!!
