Wednesday 20th February - KO 20:00 (GMT)

We play Chelsea in the League Cup Final 4 days later.

Schalke finished 2nd in their group behind Porto with 11 points. They currently sit 14th in the 18 team Bundesliga.

Their current form looks like:
Schalke 2 - 1 Wolfsburg
Hertha 2 - 2 Schalke
Schalke 0 - 2 Monchengladbach
Schalke 4 - 1 Fortuna Dusseldorf (German Cup)
Bayern 3 - 1 Schalke
Schalke 0 - 0 Freiburg

Despite the final, strongest team possible and get this tie 'won' over there. Having seen 3 or 4 of their games recently, they aren't good.

I'd go with:
----------------------Ederson
Walker-------Stones--------Otamendi------Laporte
-------------------Fernandinho
---------De Bruyne----------Gundogan
Bernardo--------------Aguero---------------Sterling

Could see him playing Zinchenko at left back, removing Otamendi and playing Laporte centre half.
I like that side and given who was rested yesterday you must be close to being on the money - but who knows with Pep.

Flying out in a couple of hours - Dusseldorf is a great location - should be a great trip

A solid professional display required again. There’s some good team lists being posted. I think Zinch deserves another LB game. Get it won over there and allow us to rotate at home.
I would go for : Eddy, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Zinch.
Bernardo, KDB, Ferni, Sane.
Sterling, Aguero.

Muric, Merlin, Foden, Ota, Mahrez, Danilo

The team picks itself other than left back. He may play Laporte there again, there’s always that curveball. But the midfield and forward line seems easy to predict:

Emerson
Zinchenko
Laporte
Stones
Walker
Fernandinho
Gundogan
KDB
Bernardo
Aguero
Sterling

Muric, Otamendi, Danilo, Silva, Mahrez, Sané, Jesus

Schalke are hopelessly out of form, really hope they don't find any on weds night. I reckon it will be a 2-1 win with this line up.

Ederson
Walker
Zinchenko
Stones
Laporte
Fernandinho
Gundogan
B.Silva
De Bruyne
Sterling
Aguero

Subs: Muric, Danilo,Otamendi, Mahrez, Jesus, Foden, Sane.

Got to get a team selection right one day.

Their league record this season sees them winning only 27% of their 22 matches, drawing 23% and losing 50%. With a -7 goal difference.

For a Premier League comparison, over 26 games, Crystal Palace have also won precisely 27% of their matches, have drawn precisely 23%, lost precisely 50% and yes... you guessed it, they also have a -7 goal difference! Incredible really!

So we are playing the equivalent of Palace... uh oh!!!

How on earth did they qualify last year?! Have they lost a load of players since then?

They did. Goretzka to Bayern, Max Meyer to Crystal Palace and Thilo Kehrer to PSG to name some. They have also had bad luck with injuries, especially in their forward line, and lastly their new players have not really delivered, in particular Sebastian Rudy who came from Bayern Munich, but has been a total disappointment. I like Schalke, but City should win this one comfortably. We just need to take it seriously, concentrate and do our thing.

No german team rolls over and dies, Schalke will compete and if we take a slender lead back to our place it will be a decent result , because we know "the great european nights under the lights" will win the game ...........................sorry wrong forum.
