Schalke Post Match Thread

Thought we spent the first 30 minutes trying to run through them and over complicating things. They looked like they may have caused some issues on the break. But once we got the passing rhythm going we were impossible to contain. Keeper should go home disappointed but it's a good response from us after the week of investigations and foaming

No getting away from how poor schalke were, their keeper in particular should have saved a few of those but you can't discredit the professional performance. No surprise whatsoever that we see a return of the incisive football were used to that cuts apart teams at will when both sterling and Sane are on the pitch, even if one orboth are not playing well, just their presence and that threat in behind creates so much space for us, space that disappears when there's only one threat in behind in the entire team. Unless injuries or fatigue sets in we need to be starting as many of our remaining games as possible with those two.

Insane to think we ended a champions league last 16 tie with a defence consisting of a winger at left back, a left footed central midfielder at right back and two right fullbacks/wingbacks at centre back.

Whoever we get in the next round that performance can only serve to put fear into the opposition. You ask fans of any side left it in who they absolutely don't want next round and other than a decent amount of Barca replies, I doubt many people will say anybody other than City..

No arguing with that demolition. Schalke almost waving the white flag by the end. Only gripe...VAR still taking far too long to reach a decision, albeit they got them right after an eternity. 10-2 on aggregate. On to the QFs.

See, if Cristiano scores, his team probably wins. If Salah scores, his team probably wins. And exactly what happens if those players are out injured for six weeks or so? We can literally do without anyone. Even Fern. We're doing all this in the absence, which has lasted most of the season, of our best player of last season.
And please, the one thing I don't want to hear tonight: “It was only Schalke”.

I honestly enjoyed the full 90 minutes. Despite VAR decisions that strangely enough didn’t influence extra time.
Gundogan and Zinchenko superb.

Nothing to add. Well done City
