Scottish Independence

They might they also might not much has changed since last time. Plus a fair chunk of those against independence last time in Shetland were more interested in independence than remaining in the UK. Some even want to be Norwegian.

Norway would be the best bet. They have a $1 trillion sovereign fund built via oil. A stable, functioning relationship with the EU. Top of the happiest people on earth index. Great fjords. What’s not to like?

Hence the part about them being a British Overseas Territory.

The Northern Isles (as i'll refer to them) do not wholly see themselves as "Scottish". They're not connected via mainland or any sort of culture. They're not interested in any sort of "emotional" argument for Scottish Independence. This is the most recent argument I found on the issue (Aug 2019) and Scottish Independence is regared as "wholly unpopular" in the Shetland Islands. Nothing has changed, at least not as much as Independence advocates like to believe.

If Scottish Independence, Scottish people must be prepared for the Northern Isles seceeding from them in the event.
Well that tells me nothing. I have no idea what people there think. However I do know brexit has changed some people in Scotlands as a whole thinking on independence, I do know Shetland voted remain. Has brexit shifted thinking there by enough I don’t know. What I do know is the harder the brexit the bigger the shift towards independence will be. The more the new immigration rules hurt Scotland the bigger the shift will be. Will it be enough for Shetland or Orkney, that are different places Orkney was much higher remain, who knows.

I'm talking about people needing to stop claiming it as "Scotland's Oil".

It's Shetland's Oil. And their attitude is currently one of being against Scottish Independence and for self-governance.
It’s funny how Scotland are part of the UK when it comes to Brexit but Shetland aren’t part of Scotland when it comes to oil and independence.
Can’t beat a good bit of hypocrisy especially when you don’t even realise you’re doing it.

So the chief source of revenue for Sturgeon's dream looks like it would be turned off if they were daft enough to
leave the UK. I doubt whisky, (overtaken by gin?) and Tunnocks tea cakes would make up the slack, so joining the EU
would be problematical, another on the teat can't be a welcome prospect for the Germans.

Have you seen the price of Beer there mate? You'd need around half that sovereign wealth fund to pay for the
ale on a half decent night out.

Yes, although supporters of Scottish independence might say they could offer similar benefits except the fund built on previous oil sales., thats gone.

Pretty much. Scotland's Independence dream hinges on it.

It's a very risky strategy given The Northern Isles opinion on ScotsIndy. This was all mentioned at the time of the referendum debates, too. Why it's not yet sunk in and being regurgitated again is anyone's guess.

Exactly, who knows. As of 2019, Scottish Independence in the Northern Isles was still wholly unpopular, regardless of brexit.

So why it's being presented by Yessers that "Scotland has the oil to survive" is a nonsense, yet its continuously dragged up as a certainty.

Have you seen their minimum wage?

At £15 an hour they can charge what they want for beer. ;)

No, first if it happened it wouldn’t be all the oil, then Scotland is in a position to become a world leader is renewable energy, it ‘s already exporting renewable energy and will fairly soon be 100% self sufficient in renewable.
As a side thing you’d be surprised how much whisky is worth to the economy far more than gin, something like two thirds of the countries spirit economic contribution is whisky and is top of the UK s food and drink exports.
