Scottish Independence

I think you are assuming immediate alignment to the EU. That probably wont happen. I would have thought first there will be some kind of transitional period where Scotland remains aligned with whats left of the UK. Probably keeping the pound under some kind of currency agreement (or not). EU will come later and then your concerns are valid. If Scotland moves to the Euro then there will be a border and all that hangs off it. It is not easy but neither is it insurmountable. We dont have the equivalent of the GFA to consider after all.

So a cake and eat it independence then?

We will have your currency still, your central bank perhaps, keep the barnett formulae for a few years etc etc.

Agree though nothing is insurmountable when you dont want it to be.

A transitional period is hardly cake and eat it mate. And is Sterling and the Bank of England purely English? Certainly if Scotland were to retain Sterling under a currency arrangement then BoE would have to still act as lender of the last resort and Scotland would remain under U.K. monetary policy - interest rates etc. Hardly independence to my mind. The flip side of that is Scotland would require its own central bank/ currency or join the Euro.
Mate, you seem to think I’m arguing for independence when I’m genuinely not. I’m just trying to add some meat to the debate and take it beyond the ‘all Scots are selfish c**ts’ that seemed to find favour for a short time on this thread. You know my views on Brexit, my views on Independence are far far less certain.

They bloody well won’t.

If they go, they don’t receive any benefits of being a union member whilst not being held to our constitution.

They go, they don’t get a single bean in hand outs.

Im not fussed either way either and if they want it and vote for it then best of luck to them and me as i live up here lol but its important feel to point out the rank hypocrisy of the SNP imo.

I wouldn't want that to be honest although their attitude towards the English, our parliament and brexit makes me think it would serve them right if that is what they faced.

My patience has worn thin.

I’d welcome any Scots that wanted to live in England, post independence vote, but not a single penny should be sent north of the new border and they can fuck off and find their own currency or beg for the Euro.

Dragging Scotland out of the eu against its will

Boris Johnson does not speak for the people of Scotland

The people of Scotland blah blAh blah blah

Scotland Have your referendum and I hope independence wins.

Ok Mr.Angry.

A bit short sighted, but if it rocks your casbah..

They are politicians with a pretty clear objective. They are no worse than any others. I have never voted SNP but let me share with you a little episode that demonstrated to me that at least one of them has their heart in the right place. My mother has vascular dementia and we had a real problem with the regional council where she lives getting her transferred to a care home near my sister some 30 miles away in a neighbouring council. We spent 9 months banging our heads against a brick wall and getting absolutely nowhere. Finally I wrote to my sisters SNP MP. Got a call from her the next day and she fixed it the day after. Bloody brilliant, I will forever be grateful to her.
