Season Ticket Renewals - small increases (again)

If City say & think our season tickets are good value compared to other nearby clubs, I'd ask them to produce figures for

1 Average cost of adult season tickets
2 Average cost of match day tickets

Would be no surprise if we're above Utd now for either/both of these. We can't be far off anyway.
It’s surprising how hard to find ‘average’ prices per club is.
There’s plenty on lowest/highest ticket price, and as of last year City had the 2nd lowest lowest season ticket price, after Huddersfield.
But that means diddly if you only selling a few hundred at that price.
Eg Liverpool had 2nd lowest lowest single match ticket at £9, but there were hardly any of them.

The premierleague.com website alludes to a comprehensive report by EY. It shows many figures, but they are across the whole league , rather than by club. Presumably the breakdown per club is confidential commercial info...
It does say that the average home ticket price per match across the entire league was £31

So (approx) 31x19 = £589 for the average premier league season ticket last year.

But that’s an average not a median value, ie the middle value’d ticket for the entire capacity, counting off from each end of the scale) - which might be a better indication.

Edit: I made a modal mistake

I implore everyone to ditch Platinum and move down to Gold.

If we all did it, nobody would lose out in points against others.

Teach the club a lesson!

They really don’t need this extra £1m they cream off seasoncard holders every year. They’re stupid enough to keep doing it though so we should just all come out of Platinum and make their stupidity mean something.

I did this a couple of seasons ago as I don't really do away games now and my financial circumstances changed. I have had no problem getting tickets to any of the cup finals as I have around 12,000 points and join the cup schemes. This year I think I will ditch the champions league as I hate the competition and who run it. The chances of me getting a ticket for the final if we ever get there would be almost non existent anyway. It would be like reading a book and then throwing it away before I read the end. The money saved will more than cover the increase of my season card.

I suppose I'm being picky here but that would be the median value, the modal value would be the most common ticket price. ;-)

Here is one for you. I will be retiring in the next couple of months with plenty of time on my hands. I have supported City for over 50 years but not had a season card for the last 5 years, so hardly a Jonny come lately. As a retirement present to myself I would like to follow City every game home and away for a full Season incorporating mini breaks on away days.I would be happy to pay a substantial premium particularly for 2 platinum season cards which would enable me and the Mrs to do this.. say £10k. Not going to happen this year but it will only be a matter of time before the Club starts issuing platinum + cards to the highest bidders who cannot afford a private box. Would my conscious say it’s wrong I am doing someone else out of the away tickets or, great, I am helping the clubs coffers and fulfilling a lifetime dream. Probably the latter.

In reality if they gave them for free we would make a big loss.

Ticket revenue is only circa 2% of the club's revenue so not a major dint... Pocket lint for the Sheikh but I don't have any complaints about the price I pay... it's a no-brainer and a good option for those reaching the end of their budget if there are some seats available in SSL3

Yes revenue not profit. Last year was an odd year but we only made £1mill profit, if season tickets had been free that's a £30 million loss at a guess. A big dint. The figures are out soon maybe it will be a £10 mill profit this year who knows but free s/c will still turn that into a loss of millions.
There is no difference in the affordability of free s/c between revenue on £2million with a £1million profit and a revenue of £500million and a profit of £1million . Why people keep going on about matchday revenue as a %age of total revenue is beyond me.

I'd be up for that on one condition. That everyone did it but that's not gonna happen. We went gold for 2 seasons whilst saving for house deposit and wedding and it fucked us right up with regard getting away tickets off our own points.

Thought they already did this?

SUPERBIA?

Yes, it’s a lesson they need to learn that football fans are the sport, there is a culture in society of going to the game with your mates. Fans are emotionally invested in their teams and that invested loyalty shouldn’t be creamed by clubs just to earn extra bits of money here and there, that they do not need, or will lose out in other areas as people will cut spending from different areas of the club anyway.

It’s not like I’m a Boots fan and they’re trying to maximise profits because I buy deodorant or athelete’s foot spray for the athlete’s foot societal culture all the time. If they put prices up I’ll go to Bodycare instead but it’s not like I’m going to start supporting Altrincham because City get too expensive.

Football clubs need teaching this lesson. If everyone in Platinum came off it and went down to Gold the club would lose more than they make with the increases so it might make them think twice about it in future. People are coming out of Cup Schemes left right and centre and our 45000 average CL attendance as opposed to our 54000 average PL attendance shows that we will not be just suckered into just giving our money away to the club all the time.

If they don’t understand that all the accumulative costs are the reasons why we didn't sell out a number of away games this season or didn’t get a bigger crowd against Burton or sell out the semi at Wembley or will only take about half as many fans to the Community Shield as Liverpool will then they are stupid. If everything was a bit cheaper City we would sell out a 65000 stadium for every single game, none of these crowds around the 40000 mark for CL games, and there would never be a Wembley trip that didn’t sell out.

We get more people going to early round FA Cup games than we do CL games! Why is that? It’s because our general support can afford those cheaper cup games on top of seasoncard money every month but not the more expensive CL games. Other sets of fans are puzzled at how we can get 52000 against Rotherham but only 40000 against Lyon. But I’m not. It’s because they keep creaming money off us all the time so we’ll just go for the cheaper options.

The board members at City can’t sit there on CL nights and think “ahh, look at all these empty and unsold seats, this is brilliant for our profits and image!”

But they must be fucking stupid if they don’t know the reason why it happens all the time. People are talking with their wallets. They are saying “I’m already paying £84.50 a month for my seasoncard so fucking stuff your Champions League up your arse! I’ll wait for the £15 FA Cup game in January”

The club need to understand its audience, not try and find new fans that don’t exist at a higher price.
