I had my keys, phone, a charging cable and a battery pack in my pocket. And was wearing a belt. They waved me though.

I was wearing a waist bag containing charging cable, battery pack, Epipen and a bottle of water. Keys in my pocket, phone in hand, a cursory wand wave and how are you and have a good day!
I was testing them with the water as I wasn’t going to pay their prices for something I have to have with me. I used to have a letter from the club stating this but I haven’t been able to get a renewal letter for some reason! If it’s so easy to get it through I’m taking my own every match! :-)

In all likelihood he just pressed a button to let you in.

Turning the phone around will make the NFC connection weaker if anything so he was talking out of his arse.

Anyway, all good in the end.
