Seasoncard Amnesty

How long is it before it's facial recognition at the turnstiles?
There's a supporters club branch that have purchased season cards in a few specific names and others have been using them for games, they have done this for years. I for one, discovered the hard way that points I should have had allocated to me and my city membership number had not been added over ten years! I subsequently left the branch but didn't have a prayer of getting all those lost points back. I had to start from scratch, not a nice feeling and a bitter pill to swollow but it had to be done. Now on 5k and I've been going since 1975!

If I were you I’d sack it off. All this worrying about them knowIng that it’s definitely you at the match can’t be good for you. I’m sure the club will get over it if you stop going and there’ll be others that will happily take your place who don’t share the same concerns.
That's the problem. Short memories. Cardiff fans went to the Supreme Court last week because of facial recognition being used at their Derby game. Being a football fan shouldn't bring with it a requirement to prove your identity or allow you to be profiled.

There will be plenty of empty seats as only a max of 30% capacity will be allowed at first and that’s providing that the stadium allows it the likes of Everton are going to struggle

I was meaning if ID is required going forward for all games at home, we will be see loads of empty seats.

City over charge for one game attendance. £56 plus is too much

Possibly getting rid of the chance for people to buy and sell tickets will damage attendances.

The club are not bothered as they already have the season card money but will also do all it can to get more money in.

Nothing in the measures announced will lead to more seats being filled. On the contrary.

And PB let's have a grown-up conversation about revenue maximisation which the ID scheme clearly facilitates, without batting it away with accusations of conspiracy.

If photo ID was a prerequisite for football to restart then why are City the only ones that I can see to push this? Are Rochdale doing the same? Yes United and Spurs are clarifying data but not alongside a requirement to carry an ID to watch a football match.

I'd expect a fan representative group to be tuned to the history on this issue but it feels like CM are facilitating it.
Only 10,000 to 15,000 will be allowed in due to Covid restrictions. I don’t think they’ll have a problem selling that many.

Yes it should, in the middle of a pandemic when the club has to know who’s there, otherwise it’s breaking the law.

Maybe I'm missing something but hasn't it been a requirement to bring Id if your buying a match ticket for ages?
As there's unlikely to be season cards next season isn't it just the same as before?

Cinema, restaurant, snooker, pub.... I've done all these in the past week and not had to show a photo ID and they've been happy with my name, address and phone number.

I've no problem with straightening out data but that doesn't need photo ID. This is City making sure everyone attending had bought a ticket through them, not borrowed one or shared. Perhaps if they were up front about their motives....

There's only a requirement to prove you bought the tickets (ie that the person ordered is the one collecting so nobody else does). Of course a seasoncard belongs to the club and they have the right to cancel it at any time for whatever reason Fletcher comes up with (in the past) but proving ID at the gate isn't a "thing"

Have you got a season ticket for any of them that you sometimes lend to people?

I really don't know why people keep comparing football grounds to pubs. The context is completely different. We're not a pub or cinema. You can walk into a pub and leave your phone number and you might be talking about 50 people a time. The scale we're dealing with is completely different with consequently greater challenges.

We're talking about getting over 10,000 people into and out of a stadium, manage them on the concourses, at catering outlets and on transport. And it's not an individual choice by each club but something agreed between the clubs and the appropriate authorities. It may be quite prescriptive at first but could change depending on events. If we have outbreaks of Covid-19 that can be traced to games then they'll have to stop allowing fans in. Or it could go off without a hitch and certain restrictions relaxed. So it may seem OTT but it's quite understandable that there's a very conservative strategy to start with.
