Seasoncard Renewals | Slight Price Increase

Season ticket holders who didn’t attend (or failed to list tickets for resale) for 10 or more Prem games are being contacted by the Club’s admin at the end of the season. Those without a proper explanation might have season cards withdrawn or be given a final warning.

I think the focus is more on persuading fans in this category to switch to match day membership etc. I would just stop these people from renewing but that’s me.
I know a good few oldees who have been very concrrned about Covid. So your argument has zero merit

Agree with a lot of what you've said but we often sell out early round FA Cup games as that's one area where the club get the pricing right - loads of local families who can't afford season tickets and match day prices for PL games tend to snap those tickets up. We actually sold more for the Liverpool semi than I expected, given the much publicised issues around that game. Funnily enough, although Liverpool are the miles better side these days I reckon if that semi had been against United then we'd have sold out no problem. Fact of the matter is that even though they're currently dogshit, games against United are still a bigger draw for City fans than any other opposition.
From a selfish perspective the early stage FA Cup pricing is great, but surely in terms of growing the matchgoing fanbase for the future it makes great commercial sense too. My kids have grown up in proper enemy territory so they are usually the only ones in City colours out and about. Yet for the Fulham match loads of kids from the area who had never admitted to being Blues before went to the game. There are also dads I know who are sworn season ticket holding United fans who are quietly watching or even going to City games, with the excuse that they have one kid who is a stubborn Blue, or they coach a team and want to learn from Pep (!) or whatever. It happens. Sensible pricing is one way to lock these Mancs in at a time when we are playing football of a standard that United have never played at, football that all of Greater Manchester should be proud of. I don't doubt they pinched a lot of potential fans off us, as practically every kid I met growing up in south Manc was vocally, actively or nominally Blue, with the '89 5-1 derby being a highpoint, but by '93 Reds were suddenly everywhere.

There is not an issue for Blues who list their ticket for resale for most games they can’t make or transfer their tickets to friends and family. When I’ve used the Ticket Exchange my ticket has usually sold but just listing the ticketing meets the Club’s requirements.

the requirement is very easy to achieve and it’s not really about Covid or any threats.

I agree its easy to achieve but my point is how fans will react to, in your words, ‘Those without a proper explanation might have season tickets withdrawn or be given a final warning’.

That to some will sound quite threatening and as highlighted, without the demand it could only alienate part of a fanbase, which is not easily replaceable, and be a PR disaster if people highlight covid etc as mitigating reasons etc. Club would need to tread catefully if it went down that route IMO.

I haven't bothered coming to midweek games since the start of the 2019/20 season - the reasons are as follows.
- 1 hour to get out of car parks nesr the ground.
- No main line trains south after 22:07
- Shit Metrolink to/from the ground.
- Shit road transport links around the ground.
- Horrendous M6 Roadworks (Still!- What the fuck have they been dooing for the last 4 years).

So a 180 mile round trip journey now takes 6 to 8 hours.
Leave at 4pm back at 1:30am if I'm lucky.
Untenable.

So are you saying they wouldn’t be able to work the Ticket Exchange and you don’t know them well enough to help them??
Tim read my explanation above. I can’t be the only one who, although it was a mild dose of Covid practically not registering, had other effects some of which can be very debilitating but not every day. As I said there, there are days, like today, when I could go (I’d suffer tomorrow but I’d see my lads!!) but then there are other days when I get up in the morning and can barely make my cuppa! I’m not looking for sympathy just pointing out that I might want to make a decision on the day but what you are saying isn’t really giving me the choice. :-) Sorry I’m not trying to be argumentative just putting another side of it. :-)

I am almost certain that the club would accept my explanation but I don’t want to have to go down that route as it looks as if I am playing on someone’s sympathy. I’m old school we carry on regardless. Mmm I think there’s a film or a song called that isn’t there? ;-)

Your point was they would be told that that they were not coming so were not wanted.
Are you talking about the Club’s policy of requiring people to either attend or try to resell their ticket for 10 or more out of the 19 games.

As Eccles Blues says, the Club would probably take a more tactful line than me but I disagree with a season card being held so a rag or dipper can go in the home end at the Etihad, once per season.
