Our cup scheme differs from the rags' in that SC holders are not FORCED to join.
And members of our CS are rewarded for attending the early - sometimes unattractive - rounds of the cups, which is only right, IMHO.
Scenario 1 - Fred went home and away for ten years. For the last five years he has just had a season ticket and can't make many aways. He hasn't joined the cup schemes because it doesn't fit his circumstances and means potentially shelling out an extra hundred quid every couple of months if they progress in all three. Something that he isn't comfortable with. Anyway, he struggles to make some midweek games due to work so it would be a bit of a waste.
Scenario Two - Justin has never been to a City game two years ago but managed to get his hands on a couple of season tickets recently. He takes mates and clients on the other one for a jolly good trip to see 'The Champions of England' who are jolly good and win a lot. Justin, his mate and his clients like watching a team that win a lot. He was bang into getting on the cup schemes as it means more trips to the football. He would never dream of going away and doesn't fancy going to watch a team that doesn't win a lot.
Justin is guaranteed a ticket. Fred isn't. Justice?
I, and many others, are only on the cup scheme because we are blackmailed into it through the fear of not getting tickets for games like this. Thousands of people who are on it would not go anywhere near it and would do what people always did - go to the cup games they can make and that fit their circumstances - if it wasn't for that fear.
